Finding Healing for Your Marriage

Years ago, author and speaker Dannah Gresh inexplicably struggled with physical pain. Doctors tested for a number of problems, including cancer and lupus, but couldn’t identify the issue.

Her troubles continued until her counselor asked if Bob, her husband, was being faithful to her, suggesting that a woman’s body can sense when their husband is mentally, spiritually, and sexually distant.

When Dannah confronted Bob about her suspicions, he denied that he was struggling with sexual integrity. Later, when the truth eventually came out, Dannah fled to the woods where she called a friend, who prayed a portion of Psalm 119 over her, asking for God to give her the energy and wisdom she needed to move forward. That day, healing for their marriage began.

Bob and Dannah’s story is not unique. When we get married, many of us bring baggage into our relationship – unrealistic expectations, trauma, or sinful behavior that puts a wedge between us and our spouse and that puts our marriage at risk.

Dannah says, “Our marriages don’t need recovery. They need redemption.”

Bob and Dannah Gresh are with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding Healing for Your Marriage” to offer hope to couples who need God to bring healing and growth to their marriage.

They identify 7 truths that are necessary for bringing redemption to your marriage:

  1. Emotions are essential ingredients of intimacy.
  2. Honest confession is the beginning of healing.
  3. Boundaries bring holiness and health to your life.
  4. Forgiveness is a supernatural act that produces freedom.
  5. Trust is a gift you choose to give.
  6. Intimacy is about sharing your whole self with your spouse.
  7. The truth will set you free.
