Former NFL Head Coach Joe Gibbs knows a thing or two about football, having taken the Washington Redskins to the Super Bowl eight times, winning three. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, this champion expanded his playing field to include the creation of his own NASCAR team. Driven by the pursuit of excellence, his Joe Gibbs Racing team captured three NASCAR Championships.
Joe stopped by Focus on the Family Monday to record a broadcast in which he tackled a different topic: doing life God’s way. His conversation with Dr. Bill Maier focused on Joe’s new book, Game Plan for Life. Written primarily for men, aged 20-50, Joe explores eleven pivotal topics from a biblical perspective.
Just as he did during his tenure as head coach for the Redskins, when it came to writing this book Joe assembled an A-Team of players to help him deliver his message; veterans like Ravi Zacharias, Chuck Colson, Tony Evans, Josh McDowell, Os Guinness and Ron Blue among others contributed to the effort.
While Joe was here, he spent some time visiting the weekly Executive Committee team meeting where he reminisced on his NASCAR and NFL days. Being somewhat of a sports buff, I enjoyed listening to Joe blend his sports experiences with insight into living a Christ-centered life.
Before he left, Joe posed for photos and gave each member of the committee a signed copy of his book. I know you’ll want to tune into the broadcast when it airs—and maybe pickup a copy of Joe’s book for the sports fan in your life.
