Helping Children Understand How They Feel

Kids emotions

Kids experience big feelings inside little bodies, which means they can easily feel overwhelmed and confused. They don’t understand their feelings, so they don’t have the language to talk about them. And if they can’t talk about them, then they can’t ask for or receive help.

The problem for parents is that helping children identify their emotions and find words to express them is like trying to explain the color blue.

How can you help your children manage their feelings in healthy ways? How can you help your children build a valuable skill that will benefit them in every relationship throughout their adult years – from their careers to their own marriage and parenting?

We’re offering tips for teaching your children to organize and make sense of their feelings on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Helping Children Understand How They Feel” with our guests Dr. Josh and Christi Straub, authors of the picture book for children called What Am I Feeling?

This was one of our most popular broadcasts of 2020. Join us on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or on our free phone app.

We’ve also got a free parenting assessment for you at our website. It will quickly give you an overview of how your family is doing in several key areas and offer some suggestions on how you can improve the relationships in your home.

Get a copy of Josh and Christi’s book What Am I Feeling? for a gift of any amount. Give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). Or visit our website for more information. If you can help Focus on the Family with a gift, know that your donation will be doubled for twice the impact in helping others through this ministry. Our thanks to generous donors who’ve made that possible.
