Helping Your Teen Trust in God’s Existence

Author Lee Strobel says, “The question of whether God is real is the most consequential issue of all because so much hangs on the answer.”

Not only does Lee believe that as a renowned Christian apologist, but he also believes it from personal experience. Lee’s parents were Christian, but as he neared his teenage years, he started to ask tough questions, like, “How do we know that God exists?” and “If God is good, why do people suffer?”

No one wanted to engage his questions. They merely said, “You don’t need to ask questions like that. Just trust and have faith.”

Lee concluded that the reason his questions were avoided was because no one had good answers. That was his first step toward becoming an atheist.

Teenagers today are bombarded with misinformation. As they mature and begin asking thoughtful questions, it’s essential for parents to offer spiritual guidance that helps their children understand reality. How do you do that? By teaching your kids to base their faith in the historical and scientific evidence that points to the existence of a Creator.

With that in mind, I’ve invited Lee Strobel to join me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to provide you with tools that will help your teen discover the evidence of God’s existence and why we can trust and believe in Him.

Mom and dad, it begins with you. Have faith that there are good answers to your child’s questions. Skeptics have been raising tough questions for centuries, yet none of them have succeeded in destroying Christianity because there are reasonable responses.

Lee references a former atheist named Chad Meister who developed what he calls the Apologetics Pyramid. The foundation of the pyramid is Truth. Each layer up the pyramid becomes increasingly specific and helps us logically explore the claims of Christianity. As you follow the layers, you discover that the Christian faith is the only worldview that adequately provides a solution to every question represented by each layer of the pyramid.

There’s much more. Hear our full conversation on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, or on our free phone app.

Lee Strobel’s book, Is God Real? For Teens: Exploring Faith in a World of Wonder, is available for a gift of any amount. Click here for more information or call 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
