How to Talk to Your Husband

Ladies, if you want to talk to your husband in a way that he’ll listen, here’s a tip you may never have thought about: follow the design of sports talk shows on television.

Broadcasters know how guys think and how to speak their language. Switch on a sports show, and you’ll notice that they spend a lot of time showing highlights of great plays. The clips are fast-paced and drop guys right into the action. It’s not until after the clip is rolling that the announcer offers a more in-depth explanation of what’s happening.

You can apply that principle to your husband in this way. When you have a conversation, give him the highlights right off the top. Tell him your main points first, then explain the important details.

Let’s say you have a problem with a co-worker. Don’t tell your husband the whole story up front, ending with your main point, “…and so and so hurt my feelings.” Instead, flip the conversation around. Start with the main point – the fact that someone hurt your feelings – then go back and fill in the important details.

Conversation with most men goes better when they know the big picture up front and get quick bits of information along the way.
