Joan of Arc… Noah’s Wife?

2
Picture of an open bible

The Bible may be the best selling book in America, but that doesn’t mean we read and retain its content.

Consider:

  • At least 12 percent of adults believe Joan of Arc was Noah’s wife.
  • A survey of graduating high school seniors revealed that more than 50 percent thought that Sodom and Gomorrah were husband and wife.
  • A considerable number of respondents to one poll indicated that the Sermon on the Mount was preached by Billy Graham.
  • Six in 10 Americans can’t name at least half of the Ten Commandments.

Obviously we can do a better job as a country when it comes to learning our Bible facts. After all, it doesn’t matter that the average U.S. household has more than four Bibles if only 16 percent of churchgoers say they read it daily.

Make Bible trivia fun

If your family is in a Bible-reading slump, perhaps what you need is a fun way to inject some energy back into the discipline.

“The American Bible Challenge” might be what you were looking for.

Jeff Foxworthy and Kirk Franklin in an American Bible Challenge posterThis game show, hosted by Jeff Foxworthy and featuring Kirk Franklin, celebrates the Bible and its teachings. During the program, three-person teams from across the nation match up to compete in a variety of challenges designed to put their Bible knowledge to the test.

The end result is more than entertaining – it’s informative and educational. It’s the type of feel-good TV families can watch together and later discuss. Not only that, but it’s great to see how a show that affirms our values and can even help shore up our weaknesses is being embraced by Hollywood thanks to its large audience.

You can catch season three premiere of “The American Bible Challenge” this Thursday, May 22 at 8/7 c on Game Show Network. I’ll even be making a brief appearance in this week’s episode. Not to play – but to give a quick shout-out about the program.

I hope you and your family can tune in!
