Would you be able to forgive the person who shattered your life?
In a recorded message on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Journeying from Tragedy to Triumph,” Bryan Koch shares how a drunk driver turned a pleasant Sunday afternoon motorcycle ride into a horrendous tragedy for his family.
After a lovely summer afternoon drive, Bryan and his wife, Lynn were less than a mile from their home when their motorcycle was run off the road by a driver whose blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit. Lynn was killed instantly. Bryan was critically injured with two crushed hips, a broken pelvis, and a left leg that was amputated after being pinned beneath the other driver’s SUV.
Seventeen surgeries brought healing to Bryan’s body, but he knew only one thing could bring the deeper healing he needed: forgiveness.
The driver was charged with homicide. At his hearing, Bryan looked the man in the eye and said, “I’ve been given a life sentence by you. I’ll live the rest of my life without my wife. My three boys will never have their mom. My grandkids will never have their grandma. But I hope you find God because my family forgives you. I’m just one beggar helping another beggar find the Bread of Life. If it weren’t for God, we’d all be lost.”
As you’ll hear on our program, Bryan draws on his incredible life experiences and communicates with an authentic, open style that allows him to be transparent and real. Most of all, his unwavering faith has taught him that “if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.”
