The longtime relationship between Planned Parenthood and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has always struck me as a peculiar alliance. That’s because according to some researchers, there’s evidence of increased risk of breast cancer after an abortion.
Fortunately, this incongruent partnership is no more.
That the nation’s leading breast cancer charity will no longer funnel funds to the nation’s leading abortion provider is a major and long sought victory in the pro-life movement.
Reports indicate that Planned Parenthood was expecting to receive upwards of $680,000 from Susan G. Komen this year.
Komen representatives have suggested their decision stems from the fact that Planned Parenthood is currently under federal investigation for using public money to perform abortions. However, advocates for life have long petitioned the charity to sever ties with the controversial organization.
Their pleas have been heard.
Our prayers have been answered.
If you’re not already familiar with the work of The Susan G. Komen For The Cure®, you’ve undoubtedly seen signs of them within the culture. This is the organization responsible for pink ribbons at the Oscars, pink bats in Major League Baseball and pink armbands on football players. They have done commendable work and are the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.
Yesterday’s announcement is a good reminder to never give up pushing for what is right. The quest to see all life protected under law is a long and wearisome effort. At times, every possible earthly force seems poised and positioned against goodness and light.
But situations are not always as they appear. God is on the move even amidst the darkness.
We may wonder what He is up to. Just don’t wonder if He is at work.
When it comes to matters of defending life, this I know:
Never give up. Never give in. Never stop fighting for what is right.
