Fire can cook you a juicy steak. Or it can burn your house to the ground. The difference lies in how well you harness the power of fire.
It’s the same with a strong will. There is a lot of good that comes from having what LeRoy and Kimberly Wagner describe as a “fierce” personality. But a strong-will gone wild can also wreak havoc.
If a woman isn’t in control of her strength, she can emasculate her husband. Kimberly’s strong will once held LeRoy back. She was asserting herself, sharing her ideas for how things should be done. She didn’t realize that her aggressiveness was switching her husband’s off switch.
And LeRoy didn’t realize that he was sanctifying passivity as “peace-making” – a victim mentality with the veneer of nobility. He didn’t believe that Christians should argue or escalate a disagreement.
As a result, Kimberly and LeRoy felt trapped in a loveless marriage … until God turned it around by teaching them that “fierce” doesn’t have to mean “obnoxious,” “loud,” or “rude.” A fierce woman can be strong and beautiful. She can be confident and successful in her own right while encouraging her husband to become all that God created him to be.
LeRoy and Kimberly Wagner are with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Loving and Leading Your Strong Woman” to share their story and to offer insight and hope to struggling couples.
I’ve repeated it often: Christian marriages are on display. Divorce rates are too high. Our goal here at Focus is to reduce the number of divorces and to empower couples to have a marriage that thrives.
