Religious Liberty

Even if you consider yourself an atheist, protecting religious freedom is still in your best interest because religious freedom is foundational to every other freedom you enjoy.

Among the freedoms our forefathers protected in the Constitution, religious freedom is first on the list. The freedom to worship – or not to worship – is ours simply because we exist. It is given to us by our Creator – that is, God himself.

That’s an important detail because if a freedom is given to us by the government then the government can also take it away.

Religion freedom is foundational to every other freedom we rely on to build a happy, thriving society. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable rights because they are woven into the very nature of God. So are the institutions of marriage and the family.

I support the right of anyone not to believe in God. But without an authority that transcends the State, our highest allegiance becomes to the State. Any government that sees itself as the people’s ultimate authority will use their power to control what the people say, believe, and do.

Regardless of your personal religious convictions, religious liberty itself is foundational to every other liberty you and I enjoy. It allows each of us to be individuals who live, speak, and act according to our deeply held convictions without interference from the government.
