Removing Barriers Between You and Your Prodigal Child

As you read this today, you may have a prodigal child who is in trouble, or in danger. They’re seemingly lost in bad friends, bad choices, and bad consequences. Your other children feel left behind in the wake of their sibling’s chaos. And you’re questioning where you went wrong.

Few things are as painful as children who turn away from their family and the values they were taught. The deeper the pain, the harder hope is to find.

Phil Waldrep is a pastor and author who has worked with many heartbroken parents with prodigal children. He’s our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Removing the Barriers Between You and Your Prodigal Child.”

We’re airing a recorded message from Phil that is rooted in research he did with 30 prodigals, many of whom had returned to the Lord. I believe you’ll be encouraged by his insights.

Phil seeks to answer two big questions for you:

  1. What did I do wrong?
  2. What can I do now?

He shares six things that the Lord can use to help bring your prodigal back into relationship with Him:

  1. Let go of your guilt.
  2. Ask for forgiveness.
  3. Love unconditionally.
  4. Consequences. Don’t rush in to help.
  5. Be careful with your speech.
  6. Pray.

Hear practical steps for bringing your prodigal back to the Lord, and to your family, on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.

If you need someone to talk to, we have caring Christian counselors on staff, and it would be their privilege to offer you a free consultation. Call us, leave your name and number, and they’ll get back with you just as soon as possible. The number during business hours is 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).

Phil Waldrep’s book, Reaching Your Prodigal: What Did I Do Wrong? What Do I Do Now?, and a free audio download of Phil’s entire presentation are available for a gift of any amount. You can get them for yourself or for someone you know who is struggling with a prodigal child. Check here for details.
