You most likely have heard by now that Dr. Jerry Falwell passed away this week. The media has covered the event extensively, as they should. Dr. Falwell was an inspiring figure who made people think. You may not have agreed with him on everything, but he said it from his heart.
Dr. Dobson was on Larry King Live last night, and he was asked if Dr. Falwell hated people? Dr. Dobson simply turned the question back to Larry King and asked him if he ever heard Jerry Falwell speak with hatred? Larry King smiled and said, “No, people really liked him.”
It is sad to hear the hatred from those who opposed him. Where is civility? I won’t even repeat the vile things that are being said about him, but it does make you wonder who the hate mongers are in the culture?
As I walked out of the office today at Focus on the Family, the trees were brimming with new green leaves and everything seemed to be so alive and fresh, and I thought about Dr. Falwell and death. He is in a better place. A place where there is no sorrow or tears. A place that is alive and fresh.
I pray for those who are now calling him names. That they too would discover the great mystery of the Gospel. That they would understand that Jesus died for mankind, for our sins, so that we might have everlasting life. I think Jerry Falwell would have prayed for them too.
