It’s easy to bless a child. It really is.
Not long ago, I asked my son, Troy, if he remembered the day almost ten years ago when I blessed him while we were out hiking on a camping trip. Somewhere along the trail, we stopped, I placed a hand on his shoulder, told him how important he was to me and his mother, and how much we – and God – loved him. Then I prayed over him.
To my surprise, he said, “Oh, yeah, Dad. I remember it.”
I thought for sure he would forget about that moment. He was only 8 years old at the time. Yet, all these years later, that snapshot in time still means something to him.
Blessing a child instills them with love and acceptance and helps them discover their identity in Christ. Yet, many children never experience a blessing from their parents because Mom and Dad don’t know how to do it.
If that’s you, we’re here to help. We’ve invited father and daughter team Dr. John Trent and Kari Trent Stageberg to be our guests on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Showing Unconditional Love to Your Children.” Listen on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.
John and Kari will help you discover simple ways to tell your kids every day that they’re loved, valued, and that God is crazy about them. They offer no formulas but share practical ways for blessing your children and grandchildren through simple gifts, storytelling, and appropriate touch.
I especially encourage you to tune in to the broadcast if you have a prodigal child. As you’ll hear, Kari shares her story about the difficult stretch she went through when she was younger. She’ll encourage you to reach out to your child and to have faith that God will never stop pursuing him or her.
Dr. John Trent is a speaker, a bestselling author, and the president and founder of strongfamilies.com. His daughter, Kari Trent Stageberg, is also a writer and speaker works alongside her dad at strongfamilies.com.
They’re authors (along with the late Dr. Gary Smalley) of the book, The Blessing: Giving the Gift of Unconditional Love and Acceptance. I’d like to offer you a copy for a gift of any amount. When you help Focus on the Family today, your donation will be doubled for twice the impact in helping others through this ministry. Our thanks to generous donors who’ve made that possible.
