Do you have plans for Valentine’s Day?
It’s a day for romantic dinners, flowers, chocolate, and clothing the world in red.
But this year Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday, and we have an additional idea in mind.
At Focus on the Family, we believe that weekend offers the perfect opportunity for congregations to unite in conveying one important message – marriage should be honored by all. As Hebrews 13:4 says, “Let marriage be held in honor among all” (ESV).
To that end, I’d like to let you know about a special event in churches across the nation called Honoring Marriage 2016.
The Bible is clear that God created the institution of marriage. As Christians, then, it’s up to us to stand for the sacredness of marriage in a culture that has devalued it. Our guests on our broadcast Wednesday through Friday of this week, Al and Lisa Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame, say our commitment to our marriage begins with our commitment to God. See here.
It all starts with stressing the importance of marriage. Again, Al and Lisa describe how crucial it is for pastors to lead that charge. See here.
To come alongside congregations across the nation and help facilitate this idea, we’ve made it easy for churches to host a special event and talk about marriage in their services and classes that weekend (or another weekend of their choice) with our Honoring Marriage Event Kit.
Included in the kit is material for sponsoring a Date Night couples event, sermon notes, Sunday school lessons/activities for adults, youth, and kids, plus all the promotional materials needed to host and promote a church event.
If you’re a pastor, free resources will also be made available to help you prepare a sermon along with a “How to Start a Marriage Ministry” ebook to assist you in launching an ongoing marriage ministry in your church.
If you’re not a member of the clergy, I invite you to talk to your pastor and let him know about your interest in seeing a strong emphasis on marriage on Valentine’s Day weekend.
We believe the Honoring Marriage Event has the potential to help prepare couples for marriage, strengthen existing marriages, and save marriages that are facing a crisis.

And don’t forget to tune in to our program to hear how God worked in Al and Lisa’s marriage, bringing them back from the brink of divorce and infusing their relationship with hope and healing. As always, you can listen on your local radio station, or tune in anytime online or via our free, downloadable mobile phone app.
