How to Experience Great Intimacy and Love in Your Marriage

Love songs and Hallmark movies paint a lovely image of intimacy. Love is easy. Just find the right person, and you’ll never struggle. You’ll always feel positive about your marriage and your spouse.

But real life usually takes more work than that. Which is where problems in a marriage often develop. Words like “commitment” and “action” sound like intimacy killers, not something that sparks it to life.

So, what does intimacy in marriage look like anyway?

Genesis 2:25 describes the very first married couple as “naked” and “not ashamed.” But that means more than “Adam and Eve didn’t wear clothing.” They were also naked mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. They were completely vulnerable with each other and felt safe in that state.

Nakedness is a picture of vulnerability. In a relationship, it communicates, “We see and accept each other fully. Scars and all.” Intimacy is rooted in the deep connection that happens when you are fully known and fully loved by someone.

On Focus on the Family with Jim Daly, I’m speaking with authors Dave and Ashley Willis about how husbands and wives can experience greater vulnerability, intimacy, and love in marriage, including:

  • Date nights.
  • Dealing with guilt and shame.
  • How to communicate your feelings.
  • Developing intimacy while raising children.

Hear our full conversation on your local radio station, online, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app. This program is part of our “Best of” programs for 2024, airing throughout the month of December.

Dave and Ashley are authors, speakers, and co-founders of stronger marriage.org. Their books 7 Days to a Naked Marriage (both the husband’s edition and the wife’s edition) are available for a gift of any amount. That money goes right back into ministry, providing hope and help to families just like yours. Click here for more information or call 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).

And when you help Focus on the Family today with a gift, your donation will be DOUBLED for twice the impact in helping others through this ministry. Our thanks to generous donors who’ve made that possible.
