Unleashing the Possibilities for Children in Foster Care

“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me’” (Matt. 25:40).

When we act on behalf of “the least of these,” it’s the same as ministering to Christ himself. With this in mind, Christians have a clear command to care for children.

On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Unleashing the Possibilities for Children in Foster Care,” we’re recognizing November as National Adoption Month in the U.S. and Canada.

I’m having a conversation with Ryan Bomberger, whose story is one of beauty from ashes. He was conceived in rape and is biracial – Caucasian and African American. His birth mom was “stronger than her circumstances,” however, and gave him the incredible gift of adoption at six weeks old. Ryan was adopted out of the foster care system by a loving family.

He says, “Though I was conceived in rape, I was adopted in love.”

Ryan is living proof of what God can do in the life of any human being who’s given a chance.

Listen to our conversation on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.

Ryan Bomberger is an Emmy Award-winning creative professional who with his wife, Bethany, founded The Radiance Foundation, a life-affirming nonprofit.

There are 440,000 children in foster care in the United States. Of those, 120,000 are legally eligible for adoption. In Canada, 30,000 children are awaiting adoption.

Even if you don’t feel led to adopt a child yourself, there are other ways to engage. Respite care means coming around foster families and supporting them in their efforts. That could be taking the kids for a weekend, providing meals, doing laundry, or coming alongside a family prayerfully and emotionally.

If you’re wondering where to start or need more information, visit our website Wait No More. We’ll help you discover what you can do to step into the life of a foster child in the name of Christ.

Another way to participate is an exciting initiative from Focus on the Family that provides adopted children with free brand-new suitcases, a teddy bear, an age-appropriate Bible, and an encouraging handwritten note to let the child know they’re loved. These bundles not only offer something for kids to call their own, but they also create a connection to Christ. To donate to the “Suitcase Bundle” program, call 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
