One week ago, our staff at Focus on the Family gathered together for a time of corporate prayer. Like many Christian ministries, we’ve experienced a dip in financial support from our friends and partners due to these tough economic times. We happen to be about $5 million behind the budget right now. However, we did not gather to weep and wring our hands in fear, perplexed by our circumstances. Why would we? Whether in good times or when times get tough, our only hope is found in the Lord.
Indeed, the message of hope permeated our gathering. I could sense the very real presence of the Spirit of God in our assembly and believe He was delighted with our worship. After our initial praise and prayer service inside, the team headed outside into the rain to pray as we walked around the campus.
Hearing the staff quietly uttering prayers made it a walk I’ll not soon forget. Our team recognizes that every inch of this campus is God’s possession, dedicated to helping families thrive. We desperately need Him—not the Congress, the President, or more human effort—just Him if we are to be fruitful and effective in the days and years ahead. That’s what this concert of prayer was about.
Here’s how 2 Chronicles 7:14 from the Bible puts it: “If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Seeking the face of our Heavenly Father is the only rock on which we can stand. We have much to do on behalf of the family, which makes our commitment to hold this ministry up to the Lord in prayer every day even more critical.
Personally, I’ve made it my habit to pray for Focus each day as I drive into work. And, as I walk into the building, I pray for the Lord’s wisdom, strength, discernment, and provision. I pray that I would be a faithful steward of all He provides.
Will you resolve to join me in praying for God’s hand of blessing? Imagine what He would do with the outpouring of all our prayers every day, as we are united in spirit and purpose!
A final thought. Why not make the same commitment to pray daily for the specific needs of your own family as well as for the needs which our country faces. Consider using your drive time to work, school, or the store to seek the Father’s face.
And may the Lord bless you abundantly with His fellowship and provision.
