The Hug That Changed The World

A few days ago, I watched one of the most deeply moving acts of forgiveness that I have ever seen.

For those who don’t yet know, Amber Guyger, a former police officer, was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting Botham Jean after allegedly mistaking his apartment for her own.

After her judgement was handed down, Brandt Jean, brother of Botham Jean, took to the stand. Instead of declaring judgement upon her, Jean decided to proclaim the gospel, and announce that he forgave Guyger.

Last Call! Students, Don’t Forget to Bring Your Bible to School Tomorrow

By now you’ve likely heard that tomorrow (October 3rd) is “Bring Your Bible to School Day,” our annual celebration designed to encourage kids to share God’s Word in a winsome and loving way, and to exercise their religious freedoms.

Beginning six years ago with 8,000 students participating, last year’s event saw over 650,000 young people representing all 50 states joining the national movement.

This year’s event hasn’t been without controversy.

Last month, New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees elicited the ire of some liberals for endorsing the celebration.

Benny Hinn Renounces “Prosperity Gospel” – What About You?

I saw an article a few weeks ago reporting that televangelist Benny Hinn had renounced the “prosperity gospel” he had been preaching for years.

Hinn declared, “I think it’s an offense to the Lord to say give $1,000. I think it’s an offense to the Holy Spirit to place a price on the Gospel. I’m done with it. I will never again ask you to give $1,000 because I think the Holy Ghost is just fed up with it.

President Trump Talks Life at the U.N.

Lost in this week’s
impeachment fever was President Trump’s stellar address to the 72nd
session of the United Nations General Assembly.

It was Mr. Trump’s third time speaking
before the world’s international body and the nation’s chief executive didn’t
mince words on a wide range of topics from North Korea to Iran and
the sovereignty of the United States.

Of particular interest to me
were his strong remarks concerning the sanctity of life:

“Americans
will never tire of defending innocent life,” he stated.

What We Believe

Focus on the Family is headquartered in Colorado Springs. When you visit the area and ask for directions, there’s a good chance you’ll hear something like this: “Head toward the mountains and take a right.”

Our city’s entire western border is the Rocky Mountains, and our crown jewel is America’s mountain – Pike’s Peak. Not only are the mountains beautiful, they’re how we locals find our way around here. You can always get to where you want to go by figuring out where you are in relation to the mountains.

From NASCAR to New Orleans, ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’ Momentum is Growing!

The late Dr. Adrian Rogers, who used to serve on the board here at Focus on the Family, liked to say that the Bible was like a pool shallow enough that a little child can come and get a drink without fear of drowning, yet so deep scholars can swim in it and never touch bottom.

I’m reminded of that observation as our promotion of ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’ on October 3rd continues to heat up.  Here are just a few updates.

Celebrating the Bible in New Orleans

Did you happen to catch any of the Monday Night Football match-up between the New Orleans Saints and the Houston Texans?

A dramatic Drew Brees-led drive in the game’s final 37 seconds culminated with a clutch 58-yard field goal lifting the Big Easy’s favorite team to victory.

Although I’m a diehard Denver Broncos fan, I was inside the Louisiana Superdome rooting on the city’s home team.

Why?

I was there to express my support for Drew Brees and all the fans who had vowed to bring their Bibles to last night’s opening game.

Drew Brees and Bring Your Bible to School Day Controversy Highlights Growing Intolerance

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was forced to respond to criticism late yesterday for recording a 22-second video promoting our organization’s annual “Bring Your Bible to School Day”, which occurs this coming October 3rd.

Specifically, Brees was put on the defensive for doing the video because Bring Your Bible to School Day is associated with Focus on the Family. Critics were aghast that he would lend his name to the event, citing our ministry’s belief in biblical marriage and support of counseling for those with unwanted same-sex attraction.

JDD Blog: A National Day of Mourning Recognizes 20 Million Lives Lost to Abortion in the African American Community

For today’s post, I want to turn the space over to my colleague and Daily Citizen writer, Brittany Raymer.

It’s likely that none of your mainstream news outlets covered an important event that occurred this past weekend. As such, this might be the first time you’re hearing about this – but I’m grateful for Brittany bringing us the story:

While most people spent Labor Day weekend with family and friends, enjoying the last vestiges of summer, others were gathered to mourn the millions of African American babies lost to abortion.

Trump Administration is Right: Recreational Marijuana Use is a Growing Epidemic

As a resident of Colorado, a state that legalized recreational marijuana use in 2012, you get accustomed to all the so-called “jokes” about the popularity of the drug in the Rocky Mountain State.

Popular culture has been trying to destigmatize marijuana for years, and it’s often the punch line in movies, television shows and music.

The reality, though, is that the recreational use of cannabis is no laughing matter, most especially for young people and pregnant women.
