Portland Bereavement Policy Affirms These Two Things

News broke this past week that city officials in Portland, Oregon have now authorized state employees who have abortions to take up to three days paid bereavement leave to help process and emotionally heal from the death of their pre-born child.

Those of us who have been advocating for every life to be protected under law have long said that abortion is a traumatic event resulting in deep grief and sorrow. In fact, studies confirm it.

Maximizing the Happiness in Your Marriage

On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Maximizing the Happiness in Your Marriage,” you’ll hear from researcher and author Shaunti Feldhahn, who explains what the happiest married couples do to be … well, happy.

Her premise is simple: the best way to have a good marriage is to find out what the happiest couples are doing and emulate them. To discover what those things are, she surveyed thousands of married couples and dug more deeply into the relationships of those who independently reported high degrees of satisfaction in their marriage.

A Two Word Solution to an Age-Old Problem: Stop It!

Readers above a certain age will remember the comedian Bob Newhart. Now 92 years-old, the actor known for his deadpan delivery once played a psychologist dispensing advice to a cast of eclectic characters. Encountering a woman who feared and thought continuously about being buried in a box, the doctor famously relayed a two-word solution:

“Stop it!”

Naturally, breaking a bad and destructive habit is easier said than done. But the first step is realizing the harm that is done by consuming pornography.

A Godly Perspective on End-of-Life Decisions

What would you do?

Imagine this scenario: You’re standing beside a hospital bed. The prognosis is not good. The doctor gives you two options. Remove your loved one from artificial life support. Or keep them alive indefinitely with it.

What would you do? What is biblical? What is permissible? What is compassionate?

Many families are facing complicated decisions in this era of intensive-care medicine, and they need help navigating it. To that end, Dr. Kathryn Butler is our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “A Godly Perspective on End-of-Life Decisions.” She’s a former trauma surgeon with a decade of experience as a critical care specialist.

Sharing Your Faith with Boldness

In 2014, brothers David and Jason Benham were considered the next stars of the HGTV cable channel. Their show Flip It Forward was expected to be as successful as Chip and Joanna Gaines’ show, Fixer Upper.

However, five weeks into a 10-week film shoot – and just months away from airing the first episode – David and Jason were fired. HGTV executives said activist organizations had begun confronting the channel and targeting advertisers. The reason?

The Benham brothers are unabashedly vocal about social issues related to marriage and pro-life values.

Friends Helping Friends: Identifying Abuse in Marriage

There’s a good chance that you know someone at church or at work who feels trapped in an abusive marriage. Three-quarters of Americans know someone who is a victim of domestic violence. According to the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, 1 in 4 women experience severe physical violence from an intimate partner.

As that person’s friend, you’re in a natural position to help. A lot of people in abusive relationships won’t seek out a counselor, but they will talk with a trusted friend.

Raising Sons to Be Honorable Men

“My coach from my senior year could look at me and knight me with his eyes.”

That powerful comment illustrates the hunger of every boy to have a man, particularly a father, draw him into manhood. It comes from Dr. Robert Lewis, who has been associated with Focus on the Family for years. Back in the late 90s, he wrote a book with Focus called Raising a Modern-Day Knight.

It’s been one of our best sellers ever since.

From Public Schools to Planned Parenthood, Liberals are Hurting Our Kids

How would you react if your teenage daughter was sexually assaulted in a women’s high school restroom by a student who gained access by “identifying” as a female?

Loudoun County, V., father Scott Smith was faced with this very predicament this past year and attempted to confront school officials about it – only to be forcibly removed from a board meeting.

Reports now suggest that Loudoun County school officials not only silenced Mr. Smith – but also attempted to cover-up the alleged crime by transferring the suspect to another school – where he reportedly assaulted yet another young woman.
