Incredible Stories of Life

Newborn baby

Every life is precious. Young and old, weak or strong, planned or unplanned.

Every January here at Focus on the Family, we observe Sanctity of Human Life Month. The idea that God has woven His image into the very fabric of every human life is a fundamental teaching of the Bible and is core to who Focus on the Family is as an organization.

In fact, one of our foundational principles reads: “We believe that human life is created by God in His image. It is of inestimable worth and significance in all its dimensions, including the preborn, the aged, the mentally disabled, those deemed unattractive, the physically challenged, and every other condition in which humanness is expressed from the single cell stage of development to natural death. Christians are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.”

We stand on that principle – not just in the month of January, but every single day.

That’s why I took some time yesterday to devote specifically to highlighting the preciousness of human life by airing comments from you – friends of our ministry. For several months, we received hundreds of phone calls and heard very personal and tender thoughts about what the value of human life means to you.

Your stories are incredible.

I have been deeply touched in hearing how God has drawn you closer to Him, either through a chronic illness, a disability, or even by observing an aging relative who has lived a long life well. I’ve been inspired by the humbling situations you’ve encountered. Thank you for opening up that part of your lives to all of us.

We aired a portion of those phone calls on our broadcast yesterday. If you weren’t able to share your thoughts with us, I’m sure for many of you stories of your own – and possibly painful memories – will come to your mind and stir something in your heart as you listen to the program. If that happens and touches a tender spot inside, let me encourage you to call our trusted counselors at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). We’d be happy to talk with you and help you find hope and healing.

Others of you may feel inspired to consider what role you might play in adopting children in need of a family. Learn more about our Wait No More adoption campaign and additional information and resources to help you be a voice for life in your community at our Wait No More website.

I’d also like to remind you about our Option Ultrasound program. We’ve been privileged to provide hundreds of grants for ultrasound machines or sonography training at pregnancy clinics across the nation. As a result, we believe more than 350,000 babies have been saved. And with your help, thousands more can be saved in 2016.

I’ll close with these familiar but poignant words spoken to the Lord from David in Psalm 139: “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Please check out our broadcast, “Speaking of Life: Our Listeners’ Stories.” As always, you can listen on your local radio station, or tune in anytime online or via our free, downloadable mobile phone app.
