The culture is inundating us with messages that chip away at the moorings upon which God’s design for marriage is built.
We shouldn’t be surprised.
Ephesians 5:31 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” The next verse says, “This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church” (v.32).
According to Paul, an intimate marriage says to the world, “This is a picture of Christ’s love for His church. This is how intense Christ’s love for you is.”
Is it any wonder, then, that the culture drowns us in twisted messages about sex? Is it any wonder that pornography is such a problem in many marriages?
Authors Bill and Pam Farrel say that the most comprehensive relational studies all agree that the best sexual experiences take place within the context of marriage. It takes some creativity and a lot of intentionality, but there are answers for married couples struggling to deepen their intimacy.
And the rewards … well, they sizzle. Not only are couples happier when they feel intimately connected, but their relationships also serve as a picture of the most important message on earth – Christ’s love – to the world.
Bill and Pam are joining us on our broadcast “Keeping the Romance Sizzling in Your Marriage” discussing their book, Red Hot Monogamy: Making Your Marriage Sizzle.
They’ll explain how couples can deepen their connection with the marriage acrostic TIME:
- Ten or twenty minutes a day to connect
- Invest in a weekly date night
- Monthly day away
- Escape yearly
They also share how to protect your marriage’s intimacy with the acrostic YES:
- Yielded to each other
- Extend intimacy in love
- Secure time together with privacy
