It’s always encouraging to return to the office from the March for Life and swap stories with members of the team who attended the rally, whether for the first time or the tenth.
President Trump’s decision to show up in person turned everything on its head. From metal detectors to Secret Service on the roof-tops, the atmosphere was super-charged last Friday.
In fact, out of concern for security, Focus on the Family was even required to vacate its tent – and with it all our special hats and cookies we intended to dispense to our guests. Fortunately, we were able to distribute them on the sidewalks surrounding the National Mall.
But before last week’s historic gathering fades into just pictures and memories, I wanted to share some highlights of it with you on today’s Focus on the Family radio program – including the wonderful address from President Trump.
President Trump became the first president in history to speak in person to the hundreds of thousands of pro-life supports gathered in our nation’s capital.
In his strong pro-life speech, the President stated in part, “We’re here for a very simple reason. To defend the right of every child born and unborn to fulfill their God-given potential. All of us here today understand an eternal truth. Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God.”
I thought President Trump’s remarks defending life in the womb were phenomenal. I also think he hit on something extremely important to remember.
Those who attend the March for Life are there to defend the rights of others. In contrast to other events like the Women’s March, where everyone is protesting for their own rights, those at the March for Life gave up their time and money to protect the most vulnerable among us. I think it’s fair to call the March for Life the most selfless rally in America.
