Comedian Ken Davis was 65 when he told his audience, “These are some of the best years of my life.”
He wasn’t joking.
He’d been a Christian for years, but it wasn’t until he was older that he’d begun living the truth of Philippians 3:10, where Paul says that he desired “to know Christ and the power of His resurrection.” Christians will experience the fullness of Christ after we die, of course, but Paul reminds us that we can also know the power of God’s resurrection in this life!
Sadly, many people live, as Henry David Thoreau described, “lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with their song still in them.” Or interpreted as only Ken Davis can, “many children of God have faces that look like they swallowed a profusely sweatin’ toad.”
Ken knows that feeling. He spent years following Christ, but missed out on the joy of truly living. One day, he lamented that fact to his friend: “Why couldn’t I have experienced this at 35 instead of 65? Why did I waste all those years?” His friend looked across the table at Ken and said, “You’ve still got today.”
And so do you.
We’re airing a recorded message from Ken we’re calling “Living Well in Middle Age.” It was one of our “Best of” broadcasts for 2018. I’ve enjoyed Ken’s messages over the years, and this one is no exception. Whether you’re approaching 65 or seeing it in the rearview mirror, Ken has a special message for you: You’re not dead yet! There’s a lot of life to be lived through Christ.
Discover the truth not only of Paul’s words, but of Saint Irenaeus, who said, “The glory of God is Man fully alive.”
