I can’t say it enough. Moms have on of the hardest jobs in the world!
I think the Lord created women with maternal instincts that drive them to serve and sacrifice everything they have for the sake of their families. My own mom cared for five children, worked two jobs, and tried to meet everybody’s needs the best way she knew how. We didn’t have much, but we were happy.
Unfortunately, it’s easy for moms to take on too many responsibilities – and neglect themselves in the process.
Author Kari Kampakis says, “With motherhood, there is no stopping point. There is no clocking out, checking out, or leaving work behind. And as your kids grow up, the demands on you multiply.”
As a young mom, Kari didn’t believe in rest. She relied on adrenaline and caffeine to get her through her days, Her physical reserves didn’t feel empty because her household and her heart were full of love. But over time, Kari learned firsthand that burnout, joylessness, and exhaustion can’t be cured with a nap or a vacation. It requires extended time with God and healthy rhythms of living that foster restoration.
Kari is with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Moms Are Human, Too: Why Self-Care Is a Good Thing” to help moms prioritize their own physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness and to model good health for their children.
