Raising Up Gen Z to Follow Christ

Gen Z is desperate for guidance and inspiration.

Jason Jimenez has been pastoring parents and students for over thirty years. He’s raised four Gen Z kids of his own. He says this current generation of children represents the most difficult parenting challenge in America’s history. The spread of secularism, violent school shootings, racial and political divides, and the influence of social media have radically altered the parenting landscape.

He once led a question-and-answer session with fifty students about the topic of government. Almost every question centered on identity politics. Few of the students were interested in learning about the formation and structure of the government or the importance of the Constitution.

How can you teach your children to love the Lord given the cultural changes shaping them? Jason answers that question on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Raising Up Gen Z to Follow Christ.”

He’ll help you better understand the world in which your children are growing up and offer four ways to raise children who are able to respond biblically to today’s culture:

  1. Model your personal relationship with Jesus. Model a lifestyle of prayer, and actively talk to your children about following Jesus. The majority of Gen Zers who have a relationship with Jesus also have parents who are Christians.
  2. Model a life devoted to growing in faith and knowledge. Be authentic in your spiritual discipline and become a living example of how the Bible transforms your life.
  3. Model strong community. Because Gen Z exists in such isolation, model living in a community of like-minded friends who will pray for you, encourage you, and support you.
  4. Model defending your faith. Speak up on matters of concern. Engage with cultural and moral issues. Provide your children with reliable information about what you believe and why.

Gen Z is being confronted with radical change in our culture that stands in direct opposition to Christianity. But there is reason for optimism. God calls people of every generation to influence the culture in positive ways and to point people to Christ.
