A few months ago, I got a chance to visit with Greta Henry. She’s the director of Living Alternatives Pregnancy Resource Center in Champaign, Illinois. She’s also their director of adoptions and oversees their residential program for women called Merci’s Refuge.
She asked me to come and speak at the pregnancy center to almost 1,000 workers and supporters. I was happy for the opportunity to share my heart with people who are so dedicated to standing for life.
That night, the audience, including me, also got to hear from Greta and from a young woman named Rain Pierce, who graduated from Merci’s Refuge. Both women shared gripping stories of God’s redemption through abuse and violence as well as inspiring accounts of babies being saved. Their stories are a powerful glimpse of how God is working through these pregnancy centers.
I was so moved and inspired by their stories I wanted you to hear them. Pregnancy resource centers are doing fantastic work in the name of the Lord to save babies and to minister to their mothers. Focus supports them through our Option Ultrasound program, which provides grants for sonogram training and technology. To date, we have distributed more than 800 grants to centers around the country that have been used to purchase ultrasound machines and provide medical training to workers, and more than 425,000 babies have been saved as a result of the effort.
I’m looking forward to hitting the million mark sometime in the near future. Saving babies is core to what we do here at Focus on the Family, and it’s a core component of the Christian faith, to be a voice for the voiceless. It’s not always popular, but it’s the right thing to do.
