In 2014, brothers David and Jason Benham were considered the next stars of the HGTV cable channel. Their show Flip It Forward was expected to be as successful as Chip and Joanna Gaines’ show, Fixer Upper.
However, five weeks into a 10-week film shoot – and just months away from airing the first episode – David and Jason were fired. HGTV executives said activist organizations had begun confronting the channel and targeting advertisers. The reason?
The Benham brothers are unabashedly vocal about social issues related to marriage and pro-life values.
David and Jason now say, “We became cancel culture seven years ago before it became a hashtag.”
As believers, we’re called to overcome both fear and anger to share the Gospel. Yet, sharing our faith in today’s culture can be daunting. The message that we are all sinners who need Christ isn’t popular. And affirming the Bible’s teaching on marriage between a man and a woman is increasingly considered bigotry.
How can Christians find the strength and courage to share their faith with compassion?
We’re talking with David and Jason Benham about how to share your faith in everyday life on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Sharing Your Faith with Boldness.” They share how to reach out with compassion to people and to boldly resist ideas contrary to God’s Word.
