Have You Heard About this Christian Scandal?

What if I told you there’s a story circulating within the national media today about a controversial female Christian evangelist who’s wrapped up in a scandal of major proportions?

Would you be shocked?

Are you cringing right now, wondering who the “she” may be?

To be sure, the details of the story are sordid.

The married evangelist in question has been rumored to have had several extramarital affairs, even one with a well-known Hollywood celebrity. Known for her progressive theology, some have accused her of peddling feminist propaganda in the midst of her preaching.

Paul Harvey Audio: If I Were the Devil…

“The United States was not and is not a democracy — which is essentially mob rule,” the late radio legend Paul Harvey once said, but rather was founded “upon the guidance and blessing of Almighty God.”

He was right.

I miss Mr. Harvey’s radio program. The Tulsa-born boy with the golden-pipes had a wonderful way with words, didn’t he? And in many ways, he was also a man before his time. Take for example this radio commentary which first aired in 1965:

Five Questions and Answers About My New Book

As some of you know, I have a new book coming out tomorrow. It’s titled, ReFocus: Living a Life that Reflects God’s Heart. My colleagues at Citizenlink recently asked me five questions about the project. I’m delighted to share the exchange with you below.

CitizenLink: The title of your new book is ReFocus. Why do you believe it’s time we must begin to refocus our hearts and actions?

Jim Daly: I think that in the culture we’ve focused a lot on righteousness and living righteously.

Did You Know This Actor Is Pro-Life?

A friend emailed me a story the other day about the actor Jack Nicholson.

I wonder if you’ve ever heard about his upbringing?

Mr. Nicholson was raised by his grandparents. His biological mother conceived him as an unmarried teenager. Now 75 years of age, he still speaks very lovingly about his childhood and the wonderful people who surrounded him as a young boy. It was this background that firmed up his opposition to abortion and his support for the pro-life movement.

Give the Refs a Break

I know what I’m about to say may not be very popular, especially today.

Last night’s chaotic and controversial end to the Seahawks and Packers Monday Night Football game has thrown gasoline on the fire surrounding the performance of replacement officials in the NFL.

And let me just say that I get it. I’m a fan. I watch the games. I enjoy the purity of the sport and don’t appreciate the delays and the mistakes that impact outcomes.

Before You Get Too Excited About the New iPhone 5…

“The fascination we have with the newness of these things…can be so undoing to our affection for Christ and our devotion to prayer and His word.”

– John Piper

“Sit loose to this world’s joy,” cautioned Robert Murray McCheyne, a Scottish pastor who passed away in 1843 at the age of 29. “The time is short.”

Amen?

VIDEO: How to Make a Difference

In East Los Angeles you’ll find a little boy with a big imagination. Only nine years-old, Caine Monroy spent his summer at his dad’s auto parts store with nothing much to do. So with the help of a little packing tape and a lot of creativity, he turned a back room full of empty boxes into a makeshift arcade.

There was only one problem.

For weeks and weeks, only one person stopped in to play. But that one person got an idea.

What One Mom Has Learned from the Olympics

The London Games continue to serve up hours and hours of spirited fun for millions around the world. For parents, the Olympics also provide all kinds of “teachable moments” for our kids, from talking about the dedication required in training to how to handle disappointment when a medal is just beyond reach.

For one mom, the delayed broadcast of the Games has also served to give her some much needed perspective. Christy Cabe is a talented writer who chronicles life with a mother’s heart because, well, she’s a happy mom who is busily raising three young children.

Should Officials Have Accepted This Answer?

United States Olympian Ryan Hall will be one of three runners representing America during the upcoming men’s marathon in London.  The 29-year-old is an evangelical Christian who relishes theopportunity to share his faith when out in public. He and his wife, Sara, attend Bethel Church in Redding, California.

Their faith, not their running, defines them. It was during college at Stanford that Ryan rededicated his life to the Lord.

“I was a runner who happened to be a Christian,” Hall told the New York Times.

Six Tips for an Easier Family Getaway

In a post last week, I mentioned the many disasters that seemed to befall TV’s Brady family while on vacations. From losing Bobby in the Grand Canyon to getting locked in an old jailhouse, all on the same trip, one might be left with the impression that a family getaway is akin to playing with fire.

Why even bother going anywhere?

We go because trips can be a lot of fun. I have some great memories as a kid going from here to there in the car.
