How Does Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage Impact Students’ Rights in Schools?

In a recent blog post, Focus on the Family Education Analyst Candi Cushman discussed how the Supreme Court’s sweeping redefinition of marriage will impact parental rights in our schools. In today’s blog post, she addresses some commonly asked questions we receive pertaining to its effect on students’ religious freedoms. –JD

Q: Do you think Obergefell v. Hodges endangers students’ rights to express a biblical point of view at school?
The short answer is yes.

Stand for Life this Weekend at #ProtestPP

This summer, as we have seen seven videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of organs from preborn babies for possible profit, we’ve talked a lot about the evil of abortion on the blog. Today I want to share with you something you can do to shine a light on this darkness, and to stand for life in a positive way.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 22, several pro-life groups are sponsoring a National Day of Protest at Planned Parenthood facilities around the nation to raise awareness of what’s going on behind closed doors.

Are Pro-Lifers the Abolitionists of Today?

Although Monday’s vote in the United States Senate to defund Planned Parenthood fell seven votes short of the necessary 60 to move forward with cloture, pro-life leaders are vowing the fight has only just begun.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Although tremendously disappointing, Monday’s vote marked the first time since the partial-birth abortion debates of the late 1990s and early 2000s that we’ve had an open debate on the Senate floor about what happens during abortion.

I want to applaud strong pro-life women like Iowa’s Sen.

Guest Post: Help Defund Planned Parenthood By Doing This

How did Planned Parenthood become a billion-dollar-a-year non-profit?

Why did U.S. taxpayers provide $528 million in grants and reimbursements to the organization in 2014 alone?

The answer is partly because Planned Parenthood is very good at marketing its products.

For instance, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards recently posted a meme to her Facebook page touting the services the group provides. The meme enumerated the number of pap tests, breast exams and STI tests conducted by the organization.

How Does Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage Impact Our Schools?

We’re about to enter the first school year after the Supreme Court’s sweeping redefinition of marriage, a decision that will deeply impact our children’s schools and education. Today I want to share a Q&A with Focus on the Family’s Education Analyst, Candi Cushman, where she’ll help explain how the legalization of same-sex marriage will affect the way we educate our children.  –JD

Q. Give us the big picture: How will this court decision change the environment in our schools?

Planned Parenthood: A Tragedy Beyond Qualification

The release yesterday of the latest undercover Planned Parenthood video exposé from the Center for Medical Progress is a horrifying illustration of evil on parade in modern America. To see and hear the former president of the organization’s Medical Directors’ Council negotiate over the price of baby body parts in the hope of raising enough money to buy herself a Lamborghini leaves one mortified and speechless.

The greatness of a nation is measured by many things, but especially by how it treats the vulnerable and defenseless.

Seven Things You Should Know About the Oregon Bakers

By now you’ve heard the news: the devout Christian bakers in Oregon who declined to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding ceremony because of their faith convictions have been fined $135,000. They’ve been told to pay this week.

In light of this development, I want to share seven facts about the Sweet Cakes by Melissa case that might surprise you:

1. The case hasn’t been seen by a judge in a court of law. The authority issuing the amount?

This Question on Same-Sex Marriage from a Journalist Surprised Me

News of the Supreme Court’s decision to impose same-sex marriage on all 50 states spread quickly on Friday.

Unpacking what this decision means, and its implications, will take a lot longer.

We’re starting that process of better understanding what the redefinition of marriage means to our country and our religious liberties on today’s Focus on the Family broadcast. We discuss this important topic with two noteworthy guests: former Focus board member Dr. Al Mohler, the president of the Southern Baptist Theology Seminary, and Dr.

No Court Can Change What Marriage Is

Statement by Focus on the Family President Jim Daly on the decision in the Obergefell v. Hodges marriage case:

“Today the Supreme Court issued a disappointing decision that imposes same-sex marriage on all 50 states.

“Although this result was predicted by many observers, the action of the Court is nonetheless startling in its rejection of a societal understanding of marriage that goes back to the dawn of civilization. It tramples on the democratic process by overturning the will of more than 60 percent of Americans who voted on the issue and creates a new federal constitutional right in an area where our founding document is silent.

Is Your Christianity Born of Convenience or Conviction?

Martyrs cross in the Coliseum in Rome

All eyes are on the Supreme Court this week as we await the historic decision in the Obergefell v. Hodges case. Seven cases remain on their docket. The justices will be issuing rulings tomorrow and Friday and possibly again on Monday. It’s impossible for us to know exactly when the decision will be announced, but this much is certain:

By this time next week we’ll know whether or not five or more justices have found a constitutional right to same-sex “marriage” in all 50 states.
