If you’ve followed this blog for a while you probably remember me telling you about Bring Your Bible to School Day, an annual Focus-sponsored event that empowers kids to celebrate religious freedom and share the love of God with their peers by doing one simple thing: bringing their Bibles to school with them! Just a couple of weeks ago, I told you that Sadie Robertson author of the best-selling book Live Fearless and formerly a teen star on Duck Dynasty is serving as this year’s Honorary Chairperson for BYBTS.
Well, the day has finally arrived. Tomorrow, October 4, is this year’s Bring Your Bible to School Day—and the fifth BYBTS overall. When the sun rises in the morning, more than half a million kids from coast to coast will put their Bible in their backpack and take it with them before they head off to class.
Think about that for a minute: more than 500,000 kids, from elementary through high school, will be living out their faith in a tangible way and doing something positive to impact the world around them. While we adults seem bogged down in the latest cultural debates and political controversies, these future leaders will be respectfully and nonconfrontationally letting their lights shine in schools across the country. Despite the darkness and hopelessness raging in our culture, these students will be living out a picture of Isaiah 52:7— “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’”
Will you join me in praying for the kids taking part in this year’s Bring Your Bible to School Day? Ask the Lord to give them courage and grace as they interact with their peers and put feet to their faith. Over the past four years we’ve heard many stories about how God has used BYBTS to impact lives, and we trust that He will move in a similarly powerful way in 2018.
And if you and your kids want to take part in Bring Your Bible to School Day, the hour is not too late! You can sign up for a free How-to Guide at our web site, and when you do, you’ll be registered for a trip for four to meet our Honorary Chairperson Sadie Robertson in person! What are you waiting for?
