Mom, you play a pivotal role in your son’s life.
It’s you who will help your son learn how to communicate verbally, to express his emotion, and to share his feelings – things he’s not as likely to learn from his dad.
You’re also the primary woman who will demonstrate how your son ought to treat other women – with love, strength, kindness, and character.
Then, along about junior high, your relationship with your son will begin to shift. As he grows older, your soft, nurturing spirit will no longer be his primary emotional need from you. A boy who’s transitioning into manhood needs your respect. It will instill him with the confidence he’ll need to build a successful career and to become a strong husband and father.
Like I said, you play a pivotal role in your son’s life, Mom. We’ve invited Dr. Kevin Leman back to our microphones to help us dig a little deeper into how moms can best parent their boys. He’s a prolific author, and the subject of our conversation today is his book What a Difference a Mom Makes.
Dr. Leman encourages moms to take an active role in the lives of their sons and to be intentional in raising them to become men of integrity and character. He’ll discuss the typical characteristics of boys, the importance of beginning with the end in mind, the best discipline techniques, and how best to parent your boys, no matter what their age.
Join us for our Focus on the Family Broadcast “A Mother’s Influence on Her Son” on your local radio station, online, oniTunes, via Podcast, or on our free phone app.
