How to Overcome a Difficult Childhood

Life can be tough, and it inflicts wounds in us all.

The question is, what do we do with the pain?

In many cases, the only solution we know is to push the pain beneath the surface of our hearts and minds and work to keep it there. We think that if we can just block out our negative memories, the bad feelings will go away. And they do … for a while.  But, eventually, our strength gives out, and all that pain comes right back up to the surface.

Is It Ever Too Late to Save a Marriage?

Naturally, with a name like “Focus on the Family,” our organization places a strong emphasis on building thriving marriages. An “ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” as they say. The best course of action is always to take steps to head off problems before they start.

But for many couples, helpful suggestions and well-meaning nudges to “be proactive” are already too late. The relationship has dried up. One or both spouses feel like the love is gone.

Indiana Considering Its Own Drop Box

Image of baby's feet from The Drop Box documentary trailer

As the team here at Focus gears up for the big debut tomorrow of our second film, “The Drop Box,” news that Indiana is considering the legalization of “baby boxes” made headlines late last week.

The Associated Press is reporting that these boxes might soon be available at hospitals, fire stations and churches across the state giving “mothers in crisis a way to surrender their children safely and anonymously.”

The proposed legislation serves as a reminder that the issues and themes “The Drop Box” examines – desperate mothers, vulnerable babies, the sanctity of life, the need for compassionate “fathers” – are universal.

Moving Video Shows the God behind “The Drop Box”

In a powerful review of “The Drop Box,” Focus’ newest movie, World Magazine wrote it “shows that Lee—once a dirty-tempered, skirt-chasing drunk—would never have saved a single baby’s life if not for a love that flows from a higher source.”

Indeed, the purpose of the film isn’t to elevate a man. It’s to elevate the God that man serves – the One who empowers people like Pastor Lee to love for others beyond their natural abilities.

Moms, You’re Doing Better Than You Think

Are you struggling with motherhood? Has your role as “mom” turned out to be more complicated than you expected?

Those are questions Lysa TerKeurst’s organization, Proverbs 31 Ministries, asked on their Facebook page. Within 24 hours, nearly 1,000 moms responded – almost all of them with a resounding “yes.”

If you’re a mom, that statistic might not surprise you. In fact, based on the results of that informal survey, there’s a good chance you feel the same way.
