Finding Freedom as a Grace-Based Mom

A lot of women feel pressure to be an outstanding wife, a fantastic mother, and to keep a beautiful home all while having a vibrant and meaningful career. They’re chasing an impossible standard. They feel they can never do enough, no matter how hard they try.

Many women are not only struggling to do it all, but to do it all perfectly.Without all of those plates spinning, they feel they’re not achieving anything extraordinary – for God or for themselves. They’re just slogging it out.

If you’re a struggling mom, we’ve got some great encouragement for youon our Focus on the Family Broadcast, “Finding Freedom as a Grace-Based Mom.” Author Jeannie Cunnion is our guest. She’s sharing about her own struggles with perfectionism as a mom and how admitting her mistakes set her free from shame and guilt, enabling her to parent with grace.

Jeannie has four boys ranging in age from toddlerhood to teenager, so she’s right there in the trenches with you. We’re talking with her about the principles for grace-based parenting she shares in her book, Mom Set Free: Find Relief from the Pressure to Get It All Right.

One of the challenging parts of parenting is that God doesn’t only work through you to grow your children, He works through your children to grow you. That means you can find peace in your inadequacy. God doesn’t call you to be sufficient for your kids; He is sufficient foryou. He told Paul in the midst of his struggle, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

The central question in grace-based parenting is: “How do I reflect the Father’s heart in the way I lead my kids today?”

Jeannie shares practical ideas that will help every mom find grace in the Lord for herself and express that grace to her children.
