From growing up dirt poor to becoming reality television superstars, Phil and Kay Robertson, of A&E’s Duck Dynasty, have persevered for more than fifty years together.
It hasn’t always been easy. Their first years together were defined by poverty and alcohol abuse so severe Miss Kay eventually kicked Phil out of the house. Phil says their transformation individually and as a couple was only made possible through repentance.
“We look at the word ‘repent’ as a bad thing,” Phil says. “I am thankful that God gave us the ability to change our minds and take a different course of action. It’s a wonderful thing that He allowed us to be able to stop and start over. You can be born again. You can go from an evil person to a person who demonstrates love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.”
Phil and Miss Kay describe God’s transforming grace in their lives over the past 40 years as “stunning.”
Phil and Kay’s story is a beautiful picture of redemption. They suffered terrible hardship, but God brought them back together, and more than 50 years later, they are going strong.
You’re not going to want to miss a minute of our conversation with them on our program “Hunting for Hope and Happiness.” They reflect on their tumultuous first years of marriage and how God transformed their relationship. It’s a powerful story of love and redemption.
