How to Answer the Tough Questions Kids Have About Christianity

A recent study found that children ask about 300 questions a day. Often they’re easy ones. But as our children grow and mature, the questions often get tougher.

And then there are times when the questions our kids ask have eternal significance.

“Are there other ways to get to heaven?”

“How can Jesus be God?”

“If God loves us, why are some people going to bed hungry tonight?”

Have you ever had your child ask one of those questions? They can really stop you in your tracks! How can you easily explain spiritual truths to your child in a way they will understand – and that will bolster their faith?

This was the topic we tackled yesterday and today on the Focus on the Family broadcast. Our guest, Alex McFarland, is a former Focus colleague and Christian apologist and culture expert. He traveled the country talking with kids and discovered what’s on their minds when it comes to faith.

Alex put together a book with Focus that takes all that research and uses it to help parents prepare for those inevitable conversations with their kids. The book is called “The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask About Christianity: And How to Answer Them Confidently” – and what a practical resource is it.

The two-day broadcast we recorded with Alex, “Tackling the Tough Questions Kids Have About Christianity,” provides a great overview of the content found in his book. It also includes a segment we recorded with kids–including my two boys, Trent and Troy – in our studios.

The children did not hold back. It was fascinating to see just how intently they’re thinking about their Christian faith. Their questions deserve thoughtful, Bible-based answers.

Listen to the “21 Questions” broadcast free online – here’s the link for part one and part two. As always, thanks for listening, for your support, and for all you do “bring your children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). Hope you all have a great weekend!
