I think both parents and children would agree that one of the best things we’ve ever come up with here at Focus on the Family has been Adventures in Odyssey, the radio drama for children ages 8-12.
When it first began, a lot of people were skeptical the venture could be successful in the age of television, movies, and other visual entertainment. But our Adventures in Odyssey team members are some of the most talented and creative in the business, and this little radio program that could has been capturing the hearts of young and old alike for almost 30 years.
In celebration of Christmas, we’re airing a two-day episode beginning tomorrow of Odyssey that takes a unique spin on It’s a Wonderful Life.
In the story, George Barclay is a pastor in Pokenberry Falls who is discouraged about his struggling church and his ability to do what God has called him to do. His crisis of faith leads to a bizarre series of events that show him what it would have been like if he had never gone to a town ruled by greed and sin.
It’s a great reminder that even when we feel inadequate, God will put people into our lives and allow situations to occur where we can see glimpses of what He is doing in and through us.
So I hope in the midst of your Christmas celebrations today and tomorrow you can find a few minutes to gather around the radio as a family like generations did in the past and listen to this heartwarming message.
And at the end of the show you’ll also hear about a special opportunity for fans of Adventures in Odyssey – a free download of another Odyssey presentation called The Star.
In this Christmas story, Connie and Eugene take a voyage in the Imagination Station to ancient Judea to see the baby Jesus. But once there, they get separated. Eugene finds himself in the desert with three strange travelers who are known as the Magi, and Connie ends up with a kind man named Proclus, who takes her to Jerusalem. There, she meets Mary, Joseph, and the Holy Child.
It’s an exciting story you won’t want to miss!
In the meantime, enjoy our featured Odyssey program tomorrow and Christmas Day on your local radio station, or tune in online or via our free, downloadable mobile phone app.
