Watch Chris Tomlin Share What #MullyMovie Meant to Him

A few weeks ago I announced a project all of us here at Focus on the Family are very excited about: we’re helping spread the word about a beautiful and life-changing movie, “MULLY.”

The film tells the story of Charles Mully, who has rescued more than 12,000 children and teens who were living on the streets of his native Kenya.

Mully was moved to compassion by his own experience of being abandoned by his family at age 6 – and his desire to obey God’s prompting in his heart to help children society had discarded.

Human Gene Editing: Three Threats You Should Know

On the surface, news that scientists are learning how to tweak the genetic code of organism cells – potentially “editing out” deadly illnesses and diseases – seems positive. Indeed, there is a lot of potential good that can be derived from technologies like these, which is why Focus on the Family supports its use in basic research as well as in treatment of diseases in adults and children.

But, as with most things, there are also potential dangers we have to be aware of.

Opioid Crisis Prompts Ohio to Seek More Foster Parents

Officials say that Ohio’s problem with heroin is reaching epidemic proportions. Ohio has the nation’s highest rate of deadly heroin overdoses, killing at least 23 people in the state each week by some estimates.

And as so often occurs when it comes to drug abuse, children are among those who suffer the most.

About half of all the kids in Ohio’s foster care system are there because one or both of their parents are drug addicts – and some counties report a rate of over 80 percent.

How to Help Families in Houston

We’ve all seen the images of a baby and his mother being carried through flood water; elderly people in a nursing home awaiting rescue while they sat in waist-deep water; tents set up on the roofs of houses while families wait for someone – anyone – to help them.

Our hearts go out to the families and individuals caught up in the devastation of the Houston flood. We know yours does, as well. At a time like this, we want to do something to provide tangible help and support.

Iceland Aborts Nearly 100 Percent of Babies with Down Syndrome

According to CBS News, the country of Iceland is eradicating Down syndrome – through abortion.

Of course, Iceland isn’t eradicating the condition at all but, instead eliminating babies with the condition.

For years now, we’ve known about the growing genocide of these children both here in the United States as well as all across the globe. In the U.S., it’s estimated that nearly 70 percent of children who receive a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome are aborted.

Baby Charlie and the Chilling Consequences of Socialized Medicine

By now you’ve surely heard about Charlie Gard, the 11-month-old British baby boy.  This little fellow is at the center of a controversial court struggle over who should make his medical decisions: his doctors, or his parents?

Charlie was born healthy to first-time parents Chris Gard and Connie Yates, but was soon diagnosed with mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome (MDDS) – an inherited disease that causes progressive muscle weakness and brain damage.

Charlie shares this condition with only 16 other people in the world.

Planned Parenthood Thinks It Will Win. I Don’t.

Lately, Planned Parenthood has been making it crystal clear what it’s all about – abortion.

That’s the big takeaway from a recent interview Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards gave to The Atlantic last week.

The piece looks at the existential threat looming over it: the United States Congress’ repeated attempts, backed by the White House, to defund the nation’s top abortion provider.

“This has led some to wonder why Planned Parenthood doesn’t just spin off its abortion services into a separate organization,” The Atlantic explains.

New Discovery Affirms the Pro-Life Teachings of the Bible

Science continues to confirm and reconfirm the humanity of the preborn child.

Case in point:

It was reported the other day that babies in the womb can see – and that they respond to face-like patterns.

According to the USA Today:

“We have shown the fetus can distinguish between different shapes, preferring to track face-like over non-face-like shapes,” said psychologist Vincent Reid of Lancaster University in the United Kingdom, a co-author of the study. “This preference has been recognized in babies for many decades, but until now exploring fetal vision has not been attempted … It turned out that they responded in a way that was very similar to infants.”

Of course, that’s because the preborn child is a developing infant.

HHS Mandate Undergoing a Major Religious Freedom Makeover

We have received encouraging news from Washington, D.C.  The so-called “HHS mandate” – the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rule requiring all employers to furnish possible abortion-causing drugs in company health plans – is undergoing a major religious freedom makeover.

The old rule – created by President Obama’s HHS as part of Obamacare – forced organizations like Hobby Lobby and the Little Sisters of the Poor to violate their conscience and provide the objectionable drugs, or be subject to millions of dollars in crippling fines.

Pregnant Teen Gallantly Takes on Planned Parenthood

You’re likely familiar with the controversy surrounding Maddie Runkles, the 18-year-old Maryland senior whose Christian high school is prohibiting her from participating in graduation exercises because of her confessed violation of the institution’s moral code.

Yet, overshadowed by the escalating debate are the bold remarks that Miss Runkles made calling for the taxpayer defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Standing before a mountain of baby socks representing children lost to abortion, the Maryland teen suggested that she’s the “perfect target” for Planned Parenthood.
