Please Pray for Religious Liberties Cases before the Supreme Court Today

Today the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments for two cases that will have far-reaching implications for our religious freedom: Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties v. Sebelius.

I’d like to ask for you to please pray about these cases – but before I go into specific prayer requests, I want to share a bit about why they’re so important.

Both cases have to do with objections the families who own these for-profit companies have to certain requirements found in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

Are Some Christians Really Supporting “Homosexual Jim Crow Laws?”

It should come as no surprise that sometimes well-meaning, sincere Christians can disagree with each other on how to best live out their faith. Sometimes, those differences can run deep.

For example, in Jesus’ time, we see an example of two disciples who had vastly different political views. There was Matthew, a former tax collector – he was a Jewish representative of the Roman government. There was also Simon the Zealot – he was part of a group that actively sought to violently overturn that same Roman government.

5 SCOTUS Cases to Watch

History tells us U.S. Supreme Court decisions often have a far-reaching impact on issues we care about – things like life, marriage and religious liberties.

To that end, I wanted to provide you with a list our experts compiled of SCOTUS court cases to watch. I hope this short summary will help you navigate the news.

As always, we encourage Christians to pray for the things that go on in our government. Pray for our Supreme Court justices, that God would grant them wisdom as they hear these cases.

Recommended Reading: “The New Age of Christian Martyrdom”

The Persecuted Church has a message for us in the free world: “Don’t forget about us.” And Kirsten Powers is determined to make sure we don’t.

The influential pundit – who recently shared the testimony of her “reluctant” conversion in a widely read story in Christianity Today – has penned a piece about Christian martyr deaths.

“The New Age of Christian Martyrdom” is worth the read. The stats and stories she shares in the article are almost unbelievable for Americans to process.

Duck Dynasty is Controversial? So is the Gospel.

The buzz surrounding Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson is growing after it was announced last night that he was being put on “indefinite hiatus” from his incredibly popular show on A&E.

Television executives made the move after Robertson’s quotes during an interview with GQ Magazine were recently published. [Caution: Graphic language] In the course of the wide-ranging discussion, Robertson talked about sin and homosexuality. He also paraphrased a Scripture passage from 1 Corinthians 6 and expressed in rather indelicate terms the anatomical realities of homosexuality.

C.S. Lewis: Thirteen Quotes Fifty Years Later

His death wasn’t front-page news in America; in fact it wasn’t reported until three days later on page 18 in The New York Times.

That’s because the passing of the beloved Christian author Clive Staples (C.S.) Lewis fifty years ago today (Nov. 22, 1963) happened to coincide with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

President Kennedy, of course, was murdered in Dallas while riding in an open car. C.S. Lewis died in Oxford, England, hours later, after struggling with heart trouble.

Christians at the Intersection of Faith and Laws

What would you do if you were asked to compromise your religious convictions?

For an increasing number of believers in this country, that’s not a hypothetical question anymore. It’s a real-life decision they’re having to make – and the cost for standing for their faith can be high.

Christian business owners who are trying to run their companies according to their biblical beliefs are finding themselves increasingly at odds with our country’s laws and “erotic freedom.” That’s why in today’s broadcast, we’re exploring the challenges to our religious liberties.

How Shoeboxes Help Spread the Gospel

It’s hard to believe the holiday season is right around the corner. In an effort to combat the overly materialistic hue Christmas has taken on, some commentators will bemoan the tradition of gift-giving.

I won’t be one of them.

Don’t get me wrong – I agree that, far too often, we’ve allowed Christmas to become what it’s not. It’s obviously not about running over fallen shoppers to get the “it” toy for a son or daughter.

No, the Church in America is Not Dying

To borrow and adapt a phrase from the late Mark Twain, reports of the Church’s death have been greatly exaggerated.

Christianity Today recently ran an article by Pastor Ed Stetzer, the president of LifeWay Research, that drives home this point. In “The State of the Church In America: Hint: It’s Not Dying,” Stetzer corrects this false narrative that the Evangelical Church is on an irreversible downward trajectory.

In doing so, he makes an important distinction – and I’ll quote Stetzer here: “Christianity is represented by people who live for Christ, not check ‘Christian’ on a survey form.”

As he fleshes out this idea, Stetzer separates the 75 percent of Americans who identify with one of three categories – those who say they are Christian because of their family history or heritage; those who do nothing more than attend church every now and then; and, finally, those who acknowledge a personal relationship with Jesus and have experienced a real life-change.
