A Manly Challenge

Speaking on behalf of most men, I can say with confidence that guys love the thrill of a challenge. And although it might pale in comparison to summiting Mount Everest or running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, today’s radio program features a special invitation to all married men to “man up.”

First, some context:

On today’s show we’re talking with authors Bill and Pam Farrel, who have written the bestselling book, Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti. The Farrels work confirms what many of us instinctively know – that men tend to compartmentalize their lives while women are more likely to simultaneously integrate every facet of theirs.

These behavioral differences between the sexes can cause significant tension, but they can also create a very positive dynamic within the marital relationship.

Which brings me to the challenge.

As you’ll hear on the program, the Farrels encourage men to deliberately pursue their wives. You can’t just tell your wife that you love her, you have to show her by being attentive and spending time together.

To that end, can you commit today to doing something special for your wife every single month for the next year? It almost sounds so easy as to be ridiculous. But life with children and work and a hundred other responsibilities can quickly distract.

What you do for your wife is up to you. But maybe it’s treating her to a quiet dinner, a night on the town, a walk in the woods or sending her a series of love notes.

Just so long as it’s deliberate and thoughtful and lets her know how valued she is.

It’s important that guys hold each other accountable. So, my co-host, John Fuller, and I are going to keep checking on the other and report back next month and every month thereafter. We’ll share the results with you.

For now, you might be thinking, “Look, it’s December. I’m too busy! I’ll start next month.”

There is no time like the present. Please let us know what you have in the works, knowing that your contribution might very well help another guy get started. Now, if you’ll excuse, I have to start working on my notes to Jean…
