Brian and Cherie Lowe paid off $127,482.30 in debt in just over four years. They know that number to the penny because, as they’ll tell you, when you put in the work and the sacrifice to pay off a dollar amount that high, you remember it to the penny. How did they do it?
Financial foreplay.
Yep, you read that correctly. That’s a term Brian and Cherie use to explain how intricately connected finances are with marital intimacy. With a divorce rate that’s too high, and money consistently a leading cause of marriage problems, it’s not difficult to understand how the two can be linked so closely.
Sex and financial health are both built on trust. Arguments over money don’t deepen a couple’s connection, they sever it, one fiber at a time. The Lowes know how discouraged and overwhelmed – even hopeless – many couples feel over the size of their debt. They’re suffocating under it.
The Lowes weren’t quite suffocating, but it was getting hard to breathe. So they took action, and not only conquered a mountain of debt, but they did it in a way that strengthened their marriage. They’re a testimony to what can happen if you give your finances to God and make wise choices. If disagreements about money can pull you apart, than agreements about money can draw you closer together.
The Lowes are sharing how on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding the Secrets to Financial and Romantic Success in Marriage.” They share how to get a vision for your marriage by asking questions like:
- Where are we going to go?
- What would our family look like if we had our finances in order and were intimately connected?
- What could we do for our kids if we were debt free?
- How can we give more and give better with our finances?
- Where would we travel?
- How could we help the kingdom of God grow if we had the resources to share as much as we wanted with others?
Having a purpose in paying off debt is key to getting started. So dream together. And guess what? When you dream together, you’ll feel more connected. Make dream sessions together a regular part of your time together and you’re well on your way to financial health and deeper marital intimacy.
There’s a lot more wisdom from the Lowes on our broadcast. Listen on your local radio station, online, on iTunes, via Podcast, or on our free phone app. Our goal is to address finances and sex with an open, honest heart, and with two experts who know what they’re talking about.
I’ll mention that this program isn’t graphic, but you may choose not to have your younger children around when you listen, so please use your discretion. You can always listen later online, on iTunes, via Podcast, or on our free phone app.
Today’s program highlights why we exist: to strengthen marriages. Last year, our surveys demonstrated that 810,000 couples believed Focus played a part in strengthening their marriage.
