Well-known author and popular guest Dr. Gary Chapman says that if you really want the marriage you’ve always dreamed of, you have to be daring.
It takes courage to ask, “Honey, how can I be a better husband/wife to you? How can I make your life easier?” Those are daring questions because your spouse will give you an answer, and he or she will expect you to respond.
Look at that scenario from a different perspective, however, and you’ll see it as a chance to minister to your spouse’s heart with the love of Christ.
Over and over again, God calls us back to the concept that love is the key to all relationships. We love God because God first loved us (1 John 4:19). Jesus said, “As I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34, ESV).
Love is about looking out for the other person’s needs.
On our broadcast “Navigating the Common Challenges of Marriage,” Dr. Gary Chapman is with us to discuss how married couples can work out common challenges that occur in marriage. He’ll take you through steps for requesting change from your spouse – after first taking responsibility for your own words and actions and learning your spouse’s method of receiving love. He’ll also help you make sense of your frantic schedule after children come along, and he’ll show you ways to live out your marriage in a God-honoring fashion.
