Simple Steps to Improve Your Marriage

Married couple

Could you use a simple tip to improve your marriage?

How about 100 simple tips?

Matt and Lisa Jacobson, our guests on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Simple Steps to Improve Your Marriage,” actually have them for you.

After 25 years of marriage, Matt and Lisa looked at each other one day and decided, “Let’s each write down one hundred things that we’ve done to create a loving marriage.” When they compared notes, they realized that the present is always the culmination of little decisions that stack up over time.

Setting a Godly Example for the Culture

Group of friends at a coffee shop

Historically, Christianity has been at its purest and most powerful in times of crisis. It’s in the margins of society where God seeks and finds people through the power of His Gospel.

Throughout history, the Gospel has been countercultural for its revolutionary message about the human heart. The Gospel isn’t a moral handbook or a handy roadmap for successful living. It’s a pronouncement about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that gives us ultimate victory over suffering and death.

VIDEO: Please Pray for Amy Coney Barrett

Judge Amy Coney Barrett

October got off to a dramatic start last week with news of President and Mrs. Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis. We continue to pray for their complete recovery and return to full activity.

Coming right on the heels of that story, as well as the highly anticipated vice-presidential debate this evening in Salt Lake City, is the start of Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court.

As I told a reporter last week, Judge Barrett represents the very best of American women, possessing the tremendous combination of a mother’s gentle heart with a fierce, brilliant legal mind.

Finding God’s Light in Dark Times

Fireflies

The Lord moves in mysterious ways.

Which is why author and humorist Patsy Clairmont doubted God was speaking to her when He asked her to share Genesis 1:3, “Let there be light,” with her friend who was sick with cancer.

Patsy knows how dark life can be. She has lived through some difficult seasons herself. In fact, for many years she suffered such crippling anxiety that she feared leaving her house, and some days she couldn’t even get out of bed.

Please Pray for President & Mrs. Trump

In times of both individual and corporate need, Christians bring their concerns and petitions to the Lord. I hope you will join me and the entire Focus on the Family ministry in praying for President and Mrs. Trump in light of their COVID-19 diagnosis last night.

It is time to set politics aside and pray for the Trump’s health and full recovery, as well as anyone within their circle who was exposed to the virus. We believe God is sovereign and that nothing catches Him by surprise.

Vice President Mike Pence Joins Focus on the Family Radio Program

Mike Pence

We reached out this past summer to both Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris, the Democrat candidate for vice president, and invited both of them to appear separately on the Focus on the Family radio program.

As a non-partisan 501(C)(3) organization, our ministry cannot and will not endorse or advocate for political candidates – but we can discuss issues.

Vice President Pence accepted our invitation. We’ve yet to receive a reply from Senator Harris.

Bring Your Bible to School Day – Wherever Your School May Be

Bring Your Bible to School Day logo

Bring Your Bible to School Day looks a bit different this year, especially given how many students remain at home for instruction amidst the on-going COVID-19 global pandemic.

In fact, New York City, the nation’s largest school district, completed its reopening of in-person learning just today. Schools in other major cities – Houston, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and San Diego – remain closed.

But in recognition that our faith has feet and isn’t limited by four walls, we’re encouraging students across the country to celebrate the day wherever they are, whether in a traditional classroom, a pod school – or even from the comfort of their own home.

Making Your Marriage a High Priority

Married couple

Not much can exploit a couple’s differences like Hollywood. So, when Kirk and Chelsea Cameron married in 1991, they knew they were attempting to build a life together in a place notorious for tearing marriages down.

They spent the first several months on the lookout for outside dangers to their relationship. But a conflict one night in their kitchen taught them that the culture surrounding them wasn’t the most significant influence on whether or not their marriage would be successful.

The Presidential Election of 2020: Stop the Blame Game.

Election 2020

If you tuned into last night’s debate or have spent any amount of time following this year’s race, you know blame is now the name of the game in the 2020 presidential election.

Every affliction must be assigned a villain.

It wasn’t always so. Let me describe a true-life scene for you.

Record deaths from the virus were mounting, taxing hospitals beyond their capacity. On one day alone, over 60 desperate calls for medical help in New York City go unaided.

Meanwhile, a blizzard in North Dakota killed 34 people and a deadly tornado outbreak was sweeping through the South, killing dozens in its path.
