Sharing Your Faith with Grace and Purpose

Friends talking

Focus on the Family serves the culture according to five foundational pillars. The first pillar is evangelism and discipleship.

Many Christians shy away from evangelism these days. Sharing one’s faith seems more difficult than ever. We don’t want to take an aggressive, “in your face” approach, so we swing the pendulum the other way and become silent, “undercover Christians.”

Is there a middle ground?

Greg Koukl is our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding Peace in Your Everyday Life.” He is an apologist and the founder and president of Stand to Reason ministries.

Tanner Cross’s Reinstatement is a Victory for the Christian Faith and the Constitution

Byron “Tanner” Cross is the type of physical education instructor you want teaching your children.

At 38 years of age, the Leesburg Elementary School PE teacher in Loudon County, Virginia, is committed, energetic, enthusiastic and deeply principled – a man who refuses to bow to “woke” politics and propaganda.

So, perhaps it’s no surprise that Mr. Cross found himself wrapped up in controversy last month after objecting to his school district’s new transgender policy.

In short, he refused to call boys “girls” and girls “boys.”

And for that, he was suspended and threatened with losing his job altogether.

Finding Peace in Your Everyday Life

Finding peace

One busy weekday morning, author Kay Wyma was backing out of her driveway when a big truck barreled down the road and forced her to the shoulder.

Frustrated and annoyed, she took a deep breath and realized that she had a choice: she could choose to wallow in her anger and frustration, or she could choose to be thankful that no one, including herself, had been injured.

Instead of condemning the truck driver, Kay felt compassion for him, wondering what kind of bad day he was having that would cause him to drive so recklessly.

Quitting Isn’t an Option: My Life as a Navy Seal

Navy Seals

We’re commemorating Memorial Day on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Quitting Isn’t an Option: My Life as a Navy Seal.” We’re airing the testimony of Chad Williams, who was transformed from a college dropout to one of America’s most elite military operatives – a Navy SEAL.

Chad’s story illustrates the grueling process of becoming a SEAL, the dedication of our military men and women, and honors American heroes who have died for our freedoms, including his beloved SEAL training coach, Scott Helvenston, who died tragically after redeploying to Iraq.

Bringing Purpose and Power to Your Prayer Life

Prayer

Today is the National Day of Prayer.

If you’re not familiar with it, this annual observance is held on the first Thursday of May and invites people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

In honor of today, I hope you’ll tune in for a special edition of our Focus on the Family Broadcast we’re calling “Bringing Purpose and Power to Your Prayer Life.”

Our guest is Kathi Lipp, who will help listeners learn how to pray diligently for themselves and others.

Finding God’s Beauty in Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Elderly woman

Dementia is one of the most difficult issues that families face today because the diagnosis is often a surprise, even though the statistics surrounding it are staggering.

Dementia is the general term for deterioration in memory and thinking, behavioral processing, and the ability to perform everyday tasks for yourself.

Sarah Smith, our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding God’s Beauty in Alzheimer’s and Dementia,” was shocked when her fiercely independent mother – nicknamed Beauty – was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s.

Walking Through the Healing Process

Man with hands raised

Pain has been called “the gift that no one wants.” And with good reason. Pain is a very real part of life – for all of us.

Many of you know my story. My mom died when I was nine years old. My stepdad abandoned me and my siblings within hours of her funeral. A few years later, my biological father died of alcoholism, and I spent several years in foster care. I got through it all mainly because of Christians like my football coach, who inspired me to turn to Christ and walk a path of hope and healing.

A Bracelet That Can Change Someone’s Life

#GoingHome bracelet

Bracelets as a form of fashion go back thousands of years, whether as jewelry made of gold, silver or even wood.

In recent years, though, bracelets have been used to help communicate a message or champion a particular cause.

My friend, Randy Hatcher, co-founder of Explore Your Faith, recently alerted me to a neat bracelet his organization is distributing. Here is how they describe it:

The bracelet is intended to be a relational, live, Gospel conversation starter.

Using Your Unique Personality to Share Your Faith

Group of people

What do you feel when you read this Scripture? “Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest’” (Matthew 9:37-38).

What about this one? “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation’” (Mark 16:15).

Do verses like these about evangelism excite you? Or do they strike fear into your heart?

Examining the Evidence of Easter

Empty tomb

Author Lee Strobel is a skeptic by nature. As legal editor for the Chicago Tribune for many years, he was trained not to accept anyone’s word at face value. Every fact was confirmed by at least two sources before it was printed. They even hung a sign in their newsroom which said, “If your mother says she loves you, check it out.”

Lee’s skepticism eventually became cynicism … and then atheism. “If there is no God,” he reasoned, “if there is no heaven, and no ultimate accountability, then the most logical way for me to live is as a hedonist, someone who only pursues pleasure.” And that’s what he did.
