Does Your Family Need a Year Off?

I like how author Joanne Kraft describes the hectic schedule she used to run herself ragged trying to keep. She swept through her days like a “busy mom hurricane.”

Can you relate? Do you feel like you’re always running? Is your “busy” switch permanently in the “on” position, and you just go, go, go?

If so, maybe you can also relate to what Joanne’s busyness cost her. Like the time she skipped her son’s baseball game for potato salad.

New Study Disproves Three Myths about Cohabitation

We’re currently in the midst of National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14), a yearly celebration that recognizes the importance of this most basic human institution.

We’re also living in an age where cohabitation rates are increasing, in part because our culture increasingly doesn’t value the importance of God’s sacred and foundational gift to men and women.

Too many couples simply don’t see the value in getting married. To them, “marriage is just a piece of paper.”  From their vantage point, marriage doesn’t bring any added benefits as long as they’re “secure” in their relationship.

So You Want to do Devotions with Your Little Ones…

Mom reads the Bible with her kids

Chuck Colson once said to me, “By age 10, your children’s moral compass is pretty well set.”

His wisdom confirmed what Jean and I already believed from our earliest days of parenting: we only had a few short years to impart biblical wisdom and a love for Jesus to our two boys. It’s a task that we’ve taken seriously ever since. But we also discovered early that “serious” doesn’t have to mean “dull” or “boring.”

Thankfully, there’s no magical “one way” for moms and dads to pass their faith on to their children.

What to Do When You’re Overwhelmed

There’s a risk in going too fast.

I’m reminded of the time a group of friends invited me to an afternoon of road racing at a Le Mans style race track. A buddy and I were handed the keys to Corvettes, Lamborghinis, and other high performance cars and given just one instruction: “Have fun.” The track had S-turns, hair pin curves, and straightaways where you could reach speeds in excess of 125 miles per hour if you were daring enough.

Celebrate “Three Kings’ Day” with a Free Adventures in Odyssey Episode

It’s back to work and school for many of us who took some much-needed time off during the Christmas season. Many of you may have even packed up your decorations until next year.

But did you know that the Christmas season traditionally runs through the feast of the Epiphany, which is celebrated on Jan. 6 or on the Sunday between Jan. 2 and 8?

The “Epiphany,” or “Three Kings Day” is especially celebrated in Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain.

How Clearing Out Clutter Can Change Your Life

Clutter in garage

You know how it is when you move into a new home. There’s so much to do at the old house, you just throw everything into boxes and commit to sorting through it all at the new house.

That’s what Jean and I did when we moved into our current home. Once the truck was unloaded, we pulled the lid off each box and looked through every item one by one.

Keep this.

Put that over there.

The Wealth Is in the Waiting

Do you remember how hard it was to wait for Christmas when you were a kid?

I’m reminded of that every year at about this time as I watch the excitement in my two boys, Trent and Troy, grow over the holiday season. But their giddiness reminds me of something else as well.

The wealth is in the waiting!

You see, I’ve realized it’s the waiting that makes Christmas feel so special. Obviously, kids look forward to ripping the paper off gifts to discover what’s inside.

Did You Know This About Duck Dynasty?

Al and Lisa Robertson

Not many families are considered a “dynasty.”

And only one is credited with building a “Duck Dynasty.”

But I guess that’s the way you’d expect a family like the Robertsons to be characterized. After all, the family patriarch, Phil Robertson, turned down an opportunity for a professional football career because it would interfere with duck hunting season.

They’ve also built a highly successful duck call business, have starred in a record-breaking cable television series for several years now, and the men of the family are all well-known for wearing beards that have become something of a cultural icon.

Four Things Good TV Moms – and Real-Life Moms – Have in Common

By now you may have heard that the actress Florence Henderson died last week on Thanksgiving Day. She was best known as Carol Brady, the “lovely lady … who met this fellow” on the iconic 1970s sitcom “The Brady Bunch.”

The show wasn’t a ratings hit during its initial run, but “The Brady Bunch” found its niche when it first aired in syndication in 1975. It’s been on the air ever since.

Some of that success is undoubtedly due to Henderson’s take on the family matriarch, which made Mrs.
