Human Gene Editing: Three Threats You Should Know

On the surface, news that scientists are learning how to tweak the genetic code of organism cells – potentially “editing out” deadly illnesses and diseases – seems positive. Indeed, there is a lot of potential good that can be derived from technologies like these, which is why Focus on the Family supports its use in basic research as well as in treatment of diseases in adults and children.

But, as with most things, there are also potential dangers we have to be aware of.

He Experienced God’s Grace As the Towers Were Falling

Where were you on 9/11?

If you’re old enough to remember that Tuesday, I’m sure that question instantly brings an answer to your mind.

It was early in the morning here in Colorado when the news broke. I had been having devotions and turned on the television just before the second plane hit the World Trade Center. Like everybody else, I spent the rest of the day glued to the television, watching one of the most epic and tragic moments in American history unfold.

The Way Forward on DACA

In his popular Morning Briefing yesterday, Southern Seminary president and former Focus on the Family board member, Dr. Al Mohler, wisely summed up the current challenge facing Congress regarding DACA – the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy – this way:

“Our current immigration laws are a complex of confusion; they do not reflect either what this country intends to enforce, by means of its police and its law enforcement agencies, nor does it reflect a coherent sense of national priorities.”

How can any reasonable person disagree?

Watch My CBN Interview on the Coach Joe Kennedy Religious Liberty Case

I want to share with you an interview I did with CBN on the topic of Joe Kennedy, the football coach who lost his job because of his custom of praying on the 50-yard line after every game. As you can tell from the interview – and my Fox News op-ed last week – I feel strongly about this story. (Click on the image to watch the interview.)

I hope you’ll click over to watch the interview – and come back and let me know what you think about Coach Joe Kennedy in the comments section below.

How to Help Families in Houston

We’ve all seen the images of a baby and his mother being carried through flood water; elderly people in a nursing home awaiting rescue while they sat in waist-deep water; tents set up on the roofs of houses while families wait for someone – anyone – to help them.

Our hearts go out to the families and individuals caught up in the devastation of the Houston flood. We know yours does, as well. At a time like this, we want to do something to provide tangible help and support.

We Need More Men Like Coach Joe Kennedy

Have you heard the latest ruling from the 9th Circuit? Three judges ruled against Joe Kennedy, a Washington State high school football coach and former Marine, for praying at the 50-yard line after each game.

The details around this story make the ruling all the more frustrating. It’s a case that might be headed to the Supreme Court.

I’m following this story because of the religious liberty issues – but there’s another, more personal reason why I’m so interested in this case.

Two Senators: One Black, One White, Helping to Heal the Racial Divide

I hope you’ll tune-in to today’s special Focus on the Family broadcast featuring an important conversation with Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and James Lankford (R-OK).

The program you’ll hear is about the confluence of race and faith – and why Christians should be in the best position to help resolve and redeem our nation’s racial tensions.

Tim Scott is only the seventh African-American ever elected to the United States Senate and the first from the state of South Carolina.

Iceland Aborts Nearly 100 Percent of Babies with Down Syndrome

According to CBS News, the country of Iceland is eradicating Down syndrome – through abortion.

Of course, Iceland isn’t eradicating the condition at all but, instead eliminating babies with the condition.

For years now, we’ve known about the growing genocide of these children both here in the United States as well as all across the globe. In the U.S., it’s estimated that nearly 70 percent of children who receive a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome are aborted.

Talking to Your Kids about Racism and Violence

The recent images from Charlottesville, VA—marches by torchlight, Nazi salutes, armed militia, angry mobs engaged in violent confrontation—are scary for adults to encounter, let alone children. These are not scenes from a movie but very real events unfolding right before our eyes.

The chaos in Charlottesville was fueled by a particularly insidious and evil form of racism known as white supremacy. It was the same in Charleston, South Carolina when a white supremacist murdered nine people during a church service in 2015, and in Overland Park, Kansas when a KKK sympathizer murdered three people near a Jewish community center in 2014.

VIDEO: A Big-Hearted Seamstress Saves the (Wedding) Day

Brides around the country are scrambling to find new wedding dresses after Alfred Angelo, a bridal gown chain, filed for bankruptcy and closed its stores without warning – leaving many of its bridal gown and bridesmaid orders unfulfilled.

It’s a nightmare for women who, in some cases, paid for gowns they won’t receive.

But some Alfred Angelo brides in Oklahoma City found out their wedding day dreams will be saved by a big-hearted seamstress who contracted with the local store.
