Freedom Never Lasts … Unless You Protect It

“I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

Quick. Who said that?

If you don’t know the answer, here’s a clue: He was an American Patriot who said those words at the age of twenty-one just before he was hanged.

Still no guesses?

Don’t feel bad. You’re not alone. That kind of rich history hasn’t been taught very well for decades. It’s alarming, frankly.

Knowing and understanding our history is much more important than memorizing a sea of dates and names.

Vice President Mike Pence to Speak at Focus’ 40th Anniversary Chapel Friday

As soon as we announced that Vice President Mike Pence was planning to speak at our 40th anniversary chapel this coming Friday, reporters began asking why.

Focus on the Family has had a friendly relationship with Vice President Pence, who is an outspoken Christian, for years. His commitment to families and the preborn has been evident since his early days as an Indiana state representative, during his tenure as governor of the Hoosier State – and it’s remained steadfast in the White House.

Former President George W. Bush and His Support of America’s Veterans

I know you’ll want to join us for our broadcast tomorrow for a special conversation I had with former President George W. Bush. We’ll discuss his appreciation for our military and his efforts to support wounded warriors.

The former president holds our men and women in uniform in such high regard that he vowed to help veterans for the rest of his life after he left office in 2009. He does that through the George W.

HHS Mandate Undergoing a Major Religious Freedom Makeover

We have received encouraging news from Washington, D.C.  The so-called “HHS mandate” – the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rule requiring all employers to furnish possible abortion-causing drugs in company health plans – is undergoing a major religious freedom makeover.

The old rule – created by President Obama’s HHS as part of Obamacare – forced organizations like Hobby Lobby and the Little Sisters of the Poor to violate their conscience and provide the objectionable drugs, or be subject to millions of dollars in crippling fines.

A Pro-Life Analysis of President Trump’s First 100 Days

President Donald Trump giving a speech

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will reach the first 100 days milestone of their administration this Saturday, and according to the President’s personal Twitter account, he’ll be celebrating the benchmark with a “BIG rally in Pennsylvania.”

The first 100 days have held special significance in American politics since Franklin D. Roosevelt signed 15 major pieces of legislation early in his presidency. That inspired pundits and the media to use the timeframe to measure the President, because it occurs during the “honeymoon period” when a new administration’s influence is likely at its greatest.

Personal Reflections on Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Swearing In Today (Guest Post)

Tim Goeglein, Focus on the Family’s vice president of external and government relations in our Washington D.C. office, had the privilege of being a guest for the swearing-in of Judge Neil Gorsuch as the newest member of the United States Supreme Court. Here are his reflections. – J.D.

Today was the most beautiful day of the year in Washington.  The skies were blue; the birds were singing; the spring tulips were in full bloom on the South Lawn of The White House; it was a festive occasion as the newest member of the Supreme Court prepared to take his seat at the high bench.

Gorsuch Will be the ‘Type of Justice Our Founders Envisioned’

This is my statement on the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court of the United States. – J.D.

**

“As a fellow Coloradan, I am thrilled that our very own Judge Neil Gorsuch, from the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, was confirmed today by a vote in the U.S. Senate. Judge Gorsuch now becomes ‘Justice’ Gorsuch upon taking the oath of office – and he will be the type of justice our Founders envisioned.

Praise for Two Pro-Life Policy Moves

Woman holds ultrasound image in her hands // pro-life policy

After eight years of an administration that was friendly to abortion in any and every instance, Congress and the Trump Administration have taken steps to pull back pro-abortion policies on a couple of fronts – and that’s good news.

Here are the details.

Last week, the U.S. Senate followed the House of Representatives in repealing an Obama-era rule that banned states from denying federal funds to groups that commit abortions, including Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Why Won’t Judge Gorsuch Promise to Overrule Roe v. Wade?

The big news out of Washington, D.C., this week is, of course, the Supreme Court nomination hearings for Judge Neil Gorsuch. Focus’ own Tim Goeglein, who is based in Washington, attended Monday’s hearing.

I’m actually in D.C. today for some meetings, and the hearings are what everyone is talking about here in the nation’s capital – as I suspect is the case across the country.

Today, for the third day, Judge Gorsuch is answering questions from the 20 Republican and Democrat senators who are part of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Ashton Kutcher’s Senate Testimony on Sex Trafficking Goes Viral

Ashton Kutcher’s recent testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on his efforts to end sex trafficking has gone viral.

The popular actor has been working to end modern-day slavery for some years now. Back in 2009, he helped found Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children, an organization that builds software to fight human trafficking.

He currently serves as Thorn’s chairman, a role that has allowed him to meet trafficking victims and learn the heartbreaking stories of others.
