Why Did This 106-Year-Old Woman Dance in the White House?

Have you seen the video of 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin dancing with joy when her dream of visiting the White House came true?

Mrs. McLaurin met President and Mrs. Obama as part of the administration’s Black History Month commemorations.

Here’s the video:

To be clear, I have strong objections to many of President Obama’s policies. It’s clear that we have a very different worldview on the most important issues of the day including, but not limited to, life, marriage and religious freedom.

Would You Have Spoken to This Man?

Has the Holy Spirit ever prompted you to go outside your comfort zone?

It recently happened to one of our team members, Sue McFadden.

Sue is a fun lady with a witty personality. She’s a regular on Facebook where she entertains her friends with her love of the Broncos as well as bits and pieces of her life. This weekend, Sue penned a post about what started out as an ordinary, mundane trip to the grocery store… but ended with a divine appointment.

Are Abortion Activists Going to Boycott Doritos?

Are Abortion Activists Going to Boycott Doritos?

Last night’s big Super Bowl win by our Denver Broncos continues to dominate conversation in the hallways here at Focus on the Family. After all, it was a plot almost too implausible for Hollywood. With his career on life support just three months ago, future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning rises off the bench on a cold January Sunday afternoon and rallies his team to a win in the final regular season game. Two playoff victories follow.

Why the Houston Grand Jury Indicted the Wrong Man

Why the Houston Grand Jury Indicted the Wrong Man

By now you’ve likely heard that David Daleiden, the pro-life investigator and founder of the Center for Medical Progress who last summer published a series of undercover videos exposing the morbid business of Planned Parenthood, has been indicted by a grand jury in Houston.

Let that sink in for a moment. Planned Parenthood was exonerated, and the person who brought to light their scandalous and potentially illegal activity has now been charged with a crime.

More on that in a moment.

Incredible Stories of Life

Newborn baby

Every life is precious. Young and old, weak or strong, planned or unplanned.

Every January here at Focus on the Family, we observe Sanctity of Human Life Month. The idea that God has woven His image into the very fabric of every human life is a fundamental teaching of the Bible and is core to who Focus on the Family is as an organization.

In fact, one of our foundational principles reads: “We believe that human life is created by God in His image.

Have You Ever Heard of “The SLED Test”?

Still of ultrasound image and text from FOTFs "S.L.E.D. Test" video series

The SLED Test is a conversation piece, originally developed by Stephen Schwartz in his book, Moral Question of Abortion, that uncovers a few ways to logically discuss the value of human life.

The acronym SLED stands for size, level of development, environment, and degree of dependency. From this thought process, we can share the reality that personhood is not defined by any of these four things.

Now, anyone who has talked with an abortion advocate knows that the dynamics of real conversation many times make it impossible to give a four-step argument like the SLED Test.

A Christmas Story For You

It’s Christmas time again, and I want to help you commemorate the birth of the Savior with a special Christmas story.

I think you’ll enjoy it, especially if you have children in the home. But before turning things over to our guest author and letting the tale speak for itself, I’d like to say a few words about how it ties into our ministry and why I think its simple message is so important.

During this season of celebration, we’re reminded that, for many of our friends, this time of year may not be as merry and joyous as it’s supposed to be.

To Honor Officer Swasey & Other Victims of Violence, We Must Pursue a Culture of Life

Officer Garrett Swasey

Our hearts have been heavy this past week with the tragic news of shootings in both California and Colorado. As I write, details of the rampage in San Bernardino are still coming in. We’ll be processing and evaluating the news in the coming days.

Garrett Swasey, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs police officer who was murdered last week outside a local Planned Parenthood clinic, will be memorialized on Friday afternoon, just up the road from our ministry’s headquarters.

The Elderly Have Answers – If We Ask the Right Questions

One of the guiding philosophies at Focus on the Family that’s woven into the very fabric of our organization is the sanctity of human life.

In part, our statement of faith in this area reads:

“We believe that human life is created by God in His image. It is of inestimable worth and significance in all its dimensions … from the single cell stage of development to natural death.”

By and large, Christians do well in recognizing the value of the preborn.

Is God Calling You to Adopt?

November is National Adoption Month.

Have you considered the role God might have for you to positively impact the lives of orphans?

If you answered no, you’re not alone. A lot of couples wrestle with whether or not they should adopt, or if there’s some other part they should play.

That was how Mike and Kristin Berry’s story began.

Kristin just assumed she and Mike would adopt children when they married. Adoption had been a legacy for Kristin’s family for decades.
