What 18,000 Christian Students Are Planning to Do on April 16 Should Encourage You

Today’s culture will often take issue with traditional Christian perspectives.

That’s what makes what will happen on April 16 all the more encouraging.

On that day, an estimated 18,000 students will share a Christian perspective on sexuality at their high schools and colleges thanks to Day of Dialogue, a student-led free speech event.

Think about the courage it takes for teenagers to commit to sharing a hope-filled, Bible-based perspective on sensitive social issues like marriage, sexuality and gender-identity issues.

Easter Puts Indiana Into Perspective

A man holds a Bible to his chest

As our thoughts turn to the core realities of our faith this weekend, we have great cause to rejoice that we live in a country whose foundational principles let us stand firm in our beliefs.

But we also have reason to grieve, because laws that buttress that foundation have come under criticism. As Christians, we have a duty to tell the truth—and call on others to tell the truth—about religious liberty policy that has served our nation well for decades, policy that is one of our greatest resources to live together peaceably despite our deepest differences.

Do You Think of Christ’s Sacrifice As Current Reality?

Here at Focus, and for Christians everywhere, this is a sacred weekend.

Today is Good Friday, and this Sunday is Easter.

It’s this weekend that we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago.

But let me ask you, do you think of Christ’s sacrifice more as historic fact or current reality?

In the day-to-day grind of life, it’s easy to forget that the God of history is also the God of today.

Seeing the Blessings in Autism

Photo of dictionary entry for "Autism"

Thomas Edison is famous for saying, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

Something similar can be said for God’s blessings.

We’ll readily accept good news as a sign of God’s presence. But when trouble strikes, we’re prone to question why He’s abandoned us.

It’s not unusual for God’s activity in and through our lives to be wrapped in the skin of challenging circumstances. That’s often the case when a child is diagnosed with autism.

Christian TED-Style Talks

Unless you’ve been trapped in a cave somewhere, you’re probably aware that followers of Jesus are up against a stiff cultural challenge.

As you watch factions square off and the rhetoric rage, you wish you could do something about it.

You’re thinking to yourself, “There must be a better way. There has to be a better way.”

I’ve got good news for you.  There is.

“Restoring All Things” is one-night-only event hosted by Focus on the Family, WORLD News Group, the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, and Prison Fellowship.

How to Overcome a Difficult Childhood

Life can be tough, and it inflicts wounds in us all.

The question is, what do we do with the pain?

In many cases, the only solution we know is to push the pain beneath the surface of our hearts and minds and work to keep it there. We think that if we can just block out our negative memories, the bad feelings will go away. And they do … for a while.  But, eventually, our strength gives out, and all that pain comes right back up to the surface.

Focus on the Family President Mourns the Loss of Kara Tippetts

Jim Daly released the following statement in response to the passing of Kara Tippetts.

***

Today, the world said goodbye to a godly and courageous woman.

Kara Tippetts, wife to Jason and mother to four young children, went home to the Lord at the age of 38. In her battle with cancer, she showed all of us what dying well looks like. The peace she found in God was hard fought, borne out of a deep and profound trust that He is present in pain and that He is good and faithful.

Why Are Christians Criticizing The Drop Box?

"The reason I decided to become their father was because God adopted me." - Pastor Lee

By nearly all accounts, the theatrical debut of “The Drop Box” was an unprecedented success, with more than 275,000 people attending the film throughout North America during its limited run.

In fact, we’ve heard from countless viewers who’ve expressed their appreciation via emotional and heartfelt testimonials. Some have told us the documentary inspired them to begin caring for foster children and start the adoption process. I can’t wait to hear their stories in the coming months and years.

How to Find Your Lifelong Love

Couple laughing together

Some adult men and women feel called to singleness. They live alone, but not in isolation. They enjoy deeply connected friendships, and they value the opportunities for service and adventure that being single affords them.

But a lot of adults hope their singleness is only a temporary season of life. They yearn and even pray for marriage. But, for many, the journey to find a mate has not panned out quite the way they expected.

You Can Learn This From the Bible’s Couples

Happy couple gardening together

When you walked down the aisle, what was your vision for you and your spouse? Did you want a “nice” marriage? A “friendly” marriage? A “we get along” marriage?

Probably not.

Most couples are searching for intimacy, connection, romance, and excitement. But years into their marriage, many husbands and wives are bored. Life has settled into a routine – a rut, really – and they’re not connecting like they once did.

If you’ve reached that place in your marriage, you might be thinking, “This isn’t what I had in mind.”

Well, that’s not what the Bible says God has in mind for you, either.
