5 Faith-Building Apps for Children

Like it or not, our kids are growing up in a world of gadgets and gizmos. Before they can even walk, many little ones know how to turn the page on an iPad or even open up a favorite app on a smart phone.

Navigating technology can be challenging enough for adults, but many parents contact us wanting to know how much screen time is safe for their kids. Should Junior be allowed to use the iPad?

The following “Kid President” video is the creation of actor Rainn Wilson.  It’s been making the rounds on the Internet and has become something of a sensation.

If you haven’t seen it, take three minutes and give it a look.

Don’t Do This to Your Family

Clovis Chappell, a minister from a century back, used to tell the story of two paddleboats. They left Memphis about the same time, traveling down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. As they traveled side by side, sailors from one vessel made a few remarks about the snail’s pace of the other.

Words were exchanged.

Challenges were made.

And the race began. Competition became vicious as the two boats roared through the Deep South.

One boat began falling behind.

These Parents are Guaranteed to Win the Super Bowl

This Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers is being dubbed the “Harbaugh Bowl” – or even better, the “Super Baugh.”

The designation stems from the fact that for the first time in the championship game’s history the teams are being coached by brothers. Jim Harbaugh is the head coach of San Francisco, and John is at the helm for Baltimore.

What are the odds of such a matchup between two brothers?

My Radical Pastor Friend

The Reverend Graham J. Baird is the senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.

He’s also my friend.

Prior to coming to Colorado, Graham served as the founding pastor of Highlands Church in Paso Robles, California. The ministry started with twenty-five people in a drive-in movie theater and has since grown to over two thousand weekly attenders.

Graham’s philosophy has been to pull down the barriers and make it easier for those wanting to come to church to learn about God.

Five Favorite Quotes About Adoption

In honor of National Adoption Month, five wonderful and inspirational quotes:

Do you want to do something beautiful for God? There is a person who needs you. This is your chance.
– Mother Teresa

Time and experience have taught me a priceless lesson: Any child you take for your own becomes your own if you give of yourself to that child. I have born two children and had seven others by adoption, and they are all my children, equally beloved and precious.

Why this School is O.K. with a Man Exposing Himself to Young Girls

Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, is allowing a 45-year-old man to use the school’s women’s locker room. He’s been reportedly spotted by young girls sitting exposed in the sauna.

How could this be true?

The man is said to believe he’s a woman. He goes by “Colleen” and is a student at the school. The locker room is used by several swim teams and local clubs – clubs that have young girls on their respective squads.

Mike Huckabee: How to Engage Christian Millenials Who Support President Obama

I’d like to invite you to listen to our radio broadcast today that features a conversation with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee about the election. The program can be accessed here.

In the midst of our visit, I asked Governor Huckabee to address the argument that many twenty and thirty-something Christians make when supporting a candidate that supports abortion and same-sex marriage. They often tell me that yes, those issues (life and marriage) are important, but there’s so many other things we should be thinking about like the environment, poverty and social justice.

Why Strangers May Know Where Your Children Are

At the risk of alarming you, this is something you’ll want to know.

Whenever your youngster uses their phone or computer to access the Internet, there are businesses out there collecting, analyzing, dissecting and selling the details of their use to other businesses.

For example, if your daughter posts a photograph of friends on Facebook, it’s possible for certain technology to determine the exact location of the snapshot. Such finite details can be valuable to companies trying to market to teenage girls.
