Does Focus on the Family Promote “Gay Conversion Therapy”?

In recent years, reporters and commentators have repeatedly and regularly alleged that Focus on the Family has practiced and endorsed so-called “gay conversion therapy.”

Here are the facts.

As an unapologetically Christian organization, we believe sexuality is a gift from God designed to be stewarded according to the principles He has outlined in Scripture. As part of that understanding, we believe in and support the availability of professional counseling in matters of sexuality that is respectful, safe, ethical and responsive to the client’s values and desires.

Trusting God Through the Messiness of Life

Man upset, praying

How does a person find peace when everything around him is communicating, “Nobody cares about me. Nobody loves me”?

That’s the question Bart Millard, the lead singer of the popular Christian band MercyMe, had to answer. The lyrics for his number-one Christian song I Can Only Imagine were an expression of love toward his Heavenly Father … and an earthly father who filled Bart’s life with suffering.

Bart’s father had been a sweet and loving man until he was hit by a truck while working for the highway department.

What Is God’s Design for Sex in Marriage?

God has given married couples a wedding present.

Sex.

The Lord designed physical intimacy to be enjoyed by both husbands and wives. First Corinthians 7 tells us that sex is rooted in mutuality. Husbands are to be sensitive to their wives’ needs, and wives are to be sensitive to their husbands’ needs. Marriage is about serving one another, not demanding your own rights.

Sadly, we live in a broken world that undermines God’s sacred designs. Secular culture portrays sex as primarily for the man.

Escaping the “Family Crazy Cycle”

Parenting is only for adults.

That’s what Dr. Emerson Eggerichs tells parents who struggle with what he calls the “family crazy cycle.”

It works like this: When children feel unloved, they tend to react in ways that feel disrespectful toward their parents. When parents feel disrespected, they tend to react in ways that feel unloving to the child.

And the cycle starts to spin.

Parenting is only for adults because it’s up to mom and dad – not the child – to stop the crazy cycle.

Uncovering the Secrets to a Happy Marriage

Julie and Clay’s first baby was due any time. To celebrate and to enjoy one last date night – at least for a while – Julie planned a romantic dinner at their favorite restaurant.

That evening, Julie arrived before Clay, and waited.

And waited.

He was supposed to come there straight from work, but twenty minutes passed and still no Clay. She called his phone. No answer.

Thirty minutes passed.

Then an hour.

Clay and Julie lost their reservation, and Julie’s expectations for the night were ruined.

Building Racial Harmony in Our Communities

Martin Luther King, Jr. waving at a crowd

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we want to share with you a powerful message about building racial harmony in our communities by my dear friend and brother in Christ, Carey Casey.

Carey lived through the real-life story captured in the movie Remember the Titans starring Denzel Washington as an African-American high school football coach who must overcome significant challenges after he’s hired to coach the school’s first racially integrated team. The Titans overcame tremendous adversity, worked through their racial differences, and won the state championship.

Three Cheers for Chick-fil-A’s Decision to Open Last Sunday!

Some are calling it a “Christmas Miracle”!

I’m talking about Chick-fil-A’s decision to open yesterday (Sunday) in order to deliver thousands of meals to stranded passengers inside Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport.

A nearly 11-hour power outage crippled the world’s busiest transportation hub – and at the start of the busy Christmas travel season, no less.

The popular restaurant chain saw the need and worked with Atlanta’s mayor to help bring some timely and tasty relief.

My family jokes about wishing we could stop at Chick-fil-A on the way home from church, but honestly, I’m not at all surprised by their decision to break with their long-held tradition.

When Clams Marry Crowbars

Are you a clam or a crowbar?

That’s an analogy Dr. David Clarke uses to help husbands and wives understand how their poor communication skills have landed them in his counseling office.

In almost every marriage, there’s a clam. The percentages suggest it’s usually men, but it can be women, too.

In either case, clams are the ones who don’t naturally talk on an emotionally deep level. They clam up. But every time they do, their spouses break out a crowbar to pry them open.
